I don't really see the harm in implementing this, though. Other than some controversy with people stalking others, I think this would bring more benefit.

A simple idea that gone through my mind few days ago:
Something similar form as "The user has added you on their friend list".
but anyways in the current friend adding button, having a different "Add as Friend" button color can work too I guess.

Meeting new people on osu! is one of the best things ever, knowing who has added you is a great idea!

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not,
Maybe should have "Follow" and "Friend" so you can still follow people who may not necessarily consider you a friend.
Also prevents popular users from getting flooded with friend requests.

We can already check if he/she has added me just by adding him/her and see if it's now mutual or not. I think it's already enough.
Some people actually want to follow someone secretly, if he/she doesn't want to be noticed.
Therefore, I disagree with the suggested feature.
