Artist's note: Shiro is unbelievably incorrect. I used Apophysis and Photoshop for this one. Took a few hours. Will use as the cover art for my next one.

Her eyes are ten times as big for what reasons?
tyrael6192
i would have said something about her oversaturated skintone too, but it's because i don't get anatomy and draw entirely from reference so i'm looking for a resemblance of the original rather than a resemblance of a person

+ i guess my proportions are off
boat
That you paint from reference without understanding the reference is your issue here.

Incorporate anatomy studies in to your referenced paintings as well. Even stylized anatomy generally follows a few rules, having a general idea of what is accurate generally helps.
tyrael6192
gotcha
boat
The skintone is actually pretty good especially if you picked it yourself, the issue is with the really harsh and textured brushwork on skin that would generally be pretty smooth. Even if you may call it a personal "style" or whatever, this is a bad habit, smooth it out. This wont break the piece.

It seems like you misinterpreted the eyes in the reference, assumed that there was no eyelashes or shadows. Look up any photographs of eyes and just study them for a minute, alternatively spend some time painting a study.

Female faces are generally a bit more round and less vertical, and nostrils aren't generally aligned straight vertically.

Visual example for clarification;

That aside, I adore your brushwork and sense of colour and always enjoy seeing your pieces. Keep it up.

So many good drawings ;__;
Here's something my uncle asked me to do sometime ago~
tyrael6192
@ boat oh wow for some reason that didn't hit me. what tool would you use to smooth out the colour transitions to such an extent?? do you just blend with the brush by picking inbetween colours as usual or is there something else to it?

and yeah studies wow it's been a looong time that i've been thinking about starting to do them but i still haven't got round to it. laziness on my behalf i'm really bad at these things

damn though thank you so much for the help
boat
In this case I just blended it out with a soft low opacity brush as a rendering step.

Do you mostly paint very zoomed in?
tyrael6192
no.. although i do use a large resolution, i tend to work at 25-33% zoom, so in that particular case the canvas would fill the majority of my screen. i generally like to use a pretty big brush while painting so working zoomed in would make it very uncomfortable

this is the kinda zoom im talking about

k let's make this more active these are nowhere near as good as what's posted in here but w/e

Yes, the shadows being "wrong" is on purpose.
And the eye highlight on Ruby's drawing feels wrong I have no idea why.
I need better brushwork.

I made timelapse videos, too, for the curious ones. Ruby Lemon

EDIT: fixes to Lemon's drawing, thanks boat

Awesome, Shiro if you say you suck at drawing, im gonna do something you wont like <3

I'm amazed by the great artwork in this thread :)

Anyway, I've recently started drawing sort of seriously(My previous drawings have been nothing but notebook doodles), and here's what I've drawn so far. I'd appreciate it if you could give some feedback for what to change and improve, so go right ahead :P
