Level comes with playing songs, not really related to skill. To gauge improvement keep doing what you have been doing and go for higher accuracy on harder songs each time. You're going to be a keyboard mashing champion in no time!

Please, at all cost, avoid converts as much as possible. They mainly consists of very random patterns, rely too much on it won't improve your skills.
