It's actually quite simple. When selecting options in the pause menu with the keyboard (Like some CtB players do, I'm sure) It also changes the volume as well. And selecting retry, being two steps down, will inevitably reduce the volume by 2 settings or more, leaving the player with the music gone upon starting a map.
