HP correlates more with the song length, followed by note density and where the map is denser.

HP 5-6 can be a nightmare for a marathon, while it's a free pass for a short map (0:30-1:00). And we're talking about Oni/Inner Oni difficulty level. What would one expect for low difficulties for short songs? Yes, a free pass too. Low difficulties are there to introduce the game and teach the basics, not to give them free passes.

Another example with HP 5-6. Let's say we have two maps. Same number of notes, same HP, same length. But one is only denser/harder than what you can play in the beginning, while the other is only denser/harder in the end. What would be easier to pass? Yes, the former would be, why? The latter will drain your HP harshly in the end, risking your chances to pass the map, while the former would let you fill up your HP bar steadily after passing the heavy HP drain section, securing a pass.

These are some factors you have to consider when selecting a suitable HP.

And yes, this is a guideline as one can't define a number, not every Kantan/Futsuu needs a high HP, long songs/dense maps would need it lower. Same for Oni and above, short songs/low density maps would require a higher HP than usual.

in other words, the newest rule is want to equalize the low difficulty and high difficulty at health bar???? that's my answer for guideline.

>This is still a guideline, not a rule, and you can put whatever HP you feel right in your maps, but don't try to force them into others that want to follow this guideline. So why ozzy did this p/4430357 , you said " you can put whatever HP you feel right in your maps", and this is still a guideline and, why should i follow these HP&OD from guideline one?. If it still a guideline why https://osu.ppy.sh/b/756622 charlotte follow these guideline's HP&OD?, it seems like a new rule not a guideline anymore.

Guideline =/= Rule, so both maps should use the original HP&OD, and not follow the guideline in my opinion.
You should follow the guideline in that mapset specifically because the creator decided to follow the guideline and if you suddenly change the HPOD settings the spread would be completely screwed up which is an UNRANKABLE issue. Ozzy dropped the suggestion and the creator accepted it, so you either follow the creator's steps or delete the diffs to avoid spread issues...
PatZar
ok i don't get it and nvm,

@raiden, "the creator accepted it" because me, i told him to change these HPOD,

and thanks for BN/QAT and raiden for teaching me
lolcubes
HP should never be set to a number because a diff is of X difficulty, it should always be set to a value which allows the minimum required amount of misses of your choice to pass.

If HP9 is necessary for the player to pass the map with 70% accuracy (not counting 100s, only misses), then it's a good choice. As Gezo demonstrated, there are quite a few maps which are passable by hitting 30% of the song and going afk afterwards. This number isn't set in stone and should vary between almost every map, the map has to be tested for this though, which I am sure not many people do.

As for the OD thing, this is a matter of one's choice really, but it shouldn't be set too low (for example, kantan and futsuu diffs shouldn't really have them lower than 4, maybe 3 in some cases, and muzukashii and up shouldn't have it lower than 5).
Low OD can only hurt in the long run, even to a point where some things are harder to play with lower OD (finishers with notes 1/2 away from them on higher BPM, streams, spinners if you aren't spamming like a maniac, etc) because of how the game mechanics work.

If you have serious problems with accuracy on OD6 (nomod), chances are the timing might be dodgy instead, so check that first. :)
OnosakiHito
It's not a guideline or rule. This is only a guide instead of guideline, even though it says "guideline". Real guidelines can be found here. Everything else has been explained by lolcubes.
PatZar
thanks both of you, let's see how it works, still confusing to set HP for now

I think we can be proud saying that we have 20 ranked and 8 qualified maps, which is 28 maps in total for August! That's one of, if not THE largest number of ranked taiko maps in the last few years! Good job everybody : D

EDIT: Gezo pls my newest post is right, this one isn't. Maybe sth got DQ'd idk weff

I need to fix the cronjob first
Found the problem but can't fix as it seems. Will work on something to make sure it works fine.

Also ranked maps / total maps / playcount are sortable

looks like it's fixed. If you have ranked taiko maps and wish to appear (or if you somehow have been forgotten) send me a PM. Same goes for functionalities you wish to see!

With the activity of the new Taiko BNs, we have 27 maps ranked in October, breaking the record in August.

it'd tie with october yes, which is good news. If the 2nd half wasn't so empty it could even be outnumbered

Might be kinda snarky but; what happened in July 2013? Was there some new "board" that started reviewing map submissions more harshly? Did a bunch of people quit and reduce the amount of maps that could be approved? And did quality really increase, because I don't really see a big jump there in map quality. I don't really know anything about the mapping process though.
OnosakiHito
That has something to do with the development of the gamemode, Potatocracy. In the earlie years, Taiko had no real restrictions and was allowed to be ranked by every BAT (now called BNs). July 2013 was the time with the first appereance of the Taiko BATs who were the only one being allowed to rank Taiko maps.

Yeah, that's true, why this tittle dissapear? I rather see taiko Nominator or Taiko BAT than Beatmap Nominator u.u
Raiden
Well it doesn't work that way nowadays. Any BN can icon any mode they want (even if it's not a smart idea for a person who is not experienced in Taiko to icon Taiko maps).

Anyway, you can already see the [Taiko] BNG/QAT list for information about that :p t/237620

Yeah, I know who can rank taiko maps but I'm not agree with work of some BNs (standard) that rank taiko, ctb and manía friend's maps without experience, grrrr WTF!!
Raiden
Well I do agree that it's a bit of a nonsense for non-Taiko BNs go around iconing Taiko maps, but I wouldn't really complain at this point lol (unless the map is clearly in lack of quality). We are in desperate need of more BNs..

This link in the OP goes to the wrong thread.
Taiko Beginner Training (English, Français, 日本語、中文, Italiano, Indonesian)
And I was looking for a link like this forever:
Lepidon's Taiko maps ! (Contains authentics and customs)
A simple way to mass download authentic Taiko maps. Yay! :) Shouldn't this also be in the OP of aquabluu's Taiko Maps?

So anyways, I did a thing and I wanted to talk about it and ask about your experiences:

Recently I changed my key layout. From dfjk to sdnum8num9. Basically almost as far apart as possible.
Initially it just felt silly: my brain still knew perfectly what to do, but my fingers were sending different signals than usual. Then, after say, half an hour, I kinda felt more skillful. So I started playing maps that previously were to challenging. I couldn't quite tell whether there was an immediate improvement.
But it's been two or three weeks now and I'm definitely playing maps now that would have seemed impossible before. My rank clearly shows that I've improved a lot.
And it feels really really good! :D 8-)

I've got two explanations:
1. Because of the aforementioned silly feeling (it wore off after half an hour and feels completely natural again today, but still) I've had to actively concentrate more on playing correctly. Before, my mind would often drift off and my fingers would do the playing by themselves. Surely, playing while actively concentrating is much more efficient training.
2. I've been playing with dfjk forever. Maybe a few bad habits sneaked into my finger movements. Changing the key layout (and with it hand position and to an extent the exact movements of my finger muscles) broke those bad habits.

Did you have any similar experiences? Are you gonna try out a new key layout? It can't hurt to try. Probably.
Estaryo
A Keylayout where all keys are nearly at the same spot isnt good. i dont know exactly why, but your hand hands are free if keys are far apart from each other.
So what you did was definitly the right thing, and thats how the most Taiko-players play, if you look at Youtubevideo's or else^^

December ends with 1 less ranked map than 2014 and 2013, having 16 ranked maps! That's still not too bad cause judging by the current qualified maps we will have a good start in 2016!

a compact layout like CVBN or FGHJ allows you to hit don finishers with one hand, so it has its uses

plus it makes it possible to play converts with 1/8's but that's a post for another time
