Ellie Goulding releases the second studio album of her career in the form of "Halcyon", a 14-song set that's due in stores October 9 via Interscope/Universal! Ellie said she chose the title because, "Halcyon is like a bird that basically during the winter, it would lay its eggs by the sea and bring calm to the stormy waters and a lot of my songs on this record are about the ocean and water...". Got it?
Most of the tracks on "Halcyon" are produced by Jim Eliot, and all were co-writen by Ellie Goulding. In this new era, the English singer definitely experiments more. You won't find any "Starry Eyed", or "Lights"-like songs on this CD, in fact, I think none have a mainstream appeal (with the exception of the Calvin Harris collaboration "I Need Your Love" of course), but nonetheless I'm enjoying "Halcyon" a lot. Getting this kind of heavenly-indie perfection sound on your sophomore album?. Amazing! Although it's plausible "Halcyon" won't push any chart-topping hit, it's a record that I'm sure we'll all appreciate intensely more in intimate/private moments, and not the radio. All of Ellie's new songs are simply exquisite to listen.
