Sorry for my bad English, but I wanted to ask if its makes my vision worse because of circles that suddenly appear.
MasterDeus
It shouldn't. I have never heard of any such injuries. Mostly made up by parents to scare children into not playing too much :)

The only thing that would make your vision worse is the screen you're looking at (which it really doesn't hurt too much unless you're looking at white light for an extended period of time and is not exclusive to OSU!). It might make you dizzy, but overall it will improve physical capabilities such as reaction time and tracking.

My parents are telling me that my vision is getting worse because I always look at those circles that suddenly appear, they actually don't want me to play this game lol and deleted it for a couple of times.

I don't feel that it does, but it could be harmful to others. Playing on a big screen will definitely hurt your eyes over time.

your parents are most likely playing their parental tricks on you. it is nearly impossible to irreversibly worsen your vision by staring at the screen all the time even if you don't give your eyes rest. what, however, can really get you is a dry eye syndrome if you rarely blink -- keep that in mind.

start fighting your cunning relatives back by reading these articles:

I can also tell that if you rarely, if ever, take breaks, the tension adds up and your vision does get worse (by about 1 dioptre), which is called "habitually-excessive tension of accommodation" (по-русски — привычно-избыточное напряжение аккомодации). however, it's not permanent and may be helped once you ask your local ophtalmologist for meds (it's typically Ирифрин, which costs about $10, or 600₽).

but $10 is $10 and I'd save on that in favor of something more enjoyable than a small dose of liquid medication.

i hope my parents will change their mind, thanks.

The meduza article used "Mayo Clinic" as a source for saying "science does not know anything" about the harm that can be done to your eyes from a computer. That's not a good source.

Here is a research paper published in 2011 that found a direct correlation between computer usage and worsened eyesight (it's in Korean but the abstract is in English):
http://www.koreascience.or.kr/article/JAKO201115037886856.page

I don't think computer vision syndrome was specifically excluded from the results (or if that variable was accounted for I missed it because I had to translate the entire paper), but I think it is completely reasonable for parents to be worried about their children's eyesight (the same conclusion that they came to in the paper) even with that included. The circles alone probably wouldn't cause more harm than anything else you are doing on your computer though.

If anyone knows of any other actual scientific research that was done on this topic that shows otherwise (or even comes to the same conclusion), I'd love to see it. This was about all I could find.

It does, that's the reason i don't play this game

I feel like it's pretty common knowledge that looking at light for extended periods of time will cause minor effects such as a headache or slightly worse vision (negligible). Just take a break every hour or 2 and you will be fine. Looking at circles appear and disappear will NOT make your vision worse.

Are you perhaps also hanging out with your father in garage who's trying to weld his VAZ-2107 back together as it had been slowly rotting in there for decades?

My eyes have been getting worse every time I go to the opticians way before I've been playing Osu!. Strangely, since playing Osu!, the extent of my eyes declining has decreased from previous years. However, this could just be a coincidence, as I've only visited the opticians perhaps once since I've joined.
Aetheric_old_1
Shouldn't unless you already suffer from similar thingsies.
Totoryu
Never got any vision problems, maybe a tiny bit of the want to blink, but that's it.
Nikolai
yes
zozo262
just take your distance between eyes and monitor and you will be fine
5amgamer
I think its fine

I don't think it's osu that makes your vision worse, it's mainly the screen you're looking at. There's stuff everywhere saying that computer screens and even phone screens can worsen your vision. In fact, playing osu actually improves your reaction timing and more stuff but osu specifically doesn't worsen your vision.
NetherFighter
I don't think the game makes your vision worse since its one of the only games where my eyes don't hurt after like 10 mins of playing.
It doesn't have many moving objects ( I guess if your using video or keeping the background undimmed then it would probably be worse)

Staring at the same location for extended periods of time can strain your eyesight. This isn't limited to osu!, long distance driving and reading have the same problem, but I notice I also don't blink very often playing osu! which can increase eyestrain. Just make sure to keep a reasonable distance from the monitor, and stare at a location 20ft away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. (Known as the 20/20/20 exercise)
