I personally don't feel this way, but maybe because I talk to him regularly and have been friends with him for a decent amount of time.

As for the traits you described, my best theory for that could be his experience with the older OT users. He hangs out with people like Tad, Gusg and IppE, and recently he's been acive on Tuuba (forum for old OT users, quite dead but has seen recent activity spikes). Older OT users are a little assholey, I like them for that and so does Poly, could it be that those traits have reflected on Poly a little?

I personally don't find Poly to be an asshole though, so that's just a theory as to why others may feel this way, might not be entirely accurate.
