A CGDCT show with good animation and a few funny references thrown in but with nothing too special otherwise. Fun characters, a nice story, some good humor, been there, seen that. Like seriously what do people see in this show that elevates it to its current state in the community? It's good, like genuinely good, I understand that-- but just "good", only "genuinely good" and inoffensive, is THAT the bar people have for shows these days for a show that's an 8/10 at best (genuinely good) to be sitting at a 9.01 on MAL and considered a masterpiece, an untouchable, flawless, phenomenal and riveting work of art standing at the highest pedestal in the world of fiction?
If Bocchi were at a 8.2 or something that'd be fine, cause I mean it's a genuinely good show and I think it does deserve a good amount of praise for what it manages to accomplish (I like the direction the team took with this one to be honest) but paragon level? No. I genuinely don't understand how people think this show is a masterpiece. I think Bocchi does deserve a dedicated (maybe cult) following, but when it is treated as the best of the best works this medium has to offer, that's when a blatant overly positive bias toward it rears its head and it begins leaning into more oppressive territory.
Also, the conflicts I've seen between Bocchi fans and K-On! fans are just stupid. Bocchi fans claiming that people who "hate" on their show are all K-On! fans who believe K-On! is the pinnacle of the CGDCT genre and they "hate" Bocchi because of that. Never seen a dumber strawman argument.
Also what's funny here is that the manga was at a 7.70~ before the anime started airing and now it's at an 8.02 lol.
