[resolved] beatmap difficulty calculation

Problem details: The problem started to occur once my PC abruptly started the system update and then when I opened osu back again it kept on repeating the message "beatmap difficulty calculation is happening in the background" no matter how long I wait, it keeps showing that notification and some of my beatmaps just stay in the "below one star" category as I use sorting by difficulty


osu! version: Cutting Edge 20221104

Which screen are you leaving the game open on while waiting? If your answer to that question is not the beatmap selection menu, then please try leaving the game open on that screen to see if that helps.

If not, please post the "runtime.log" file from the Logs folder in your osu! installation directory after having left the game open for a bit.

i do leave it open in the beatmap selection menu only
but I didn't understand how can you leave the game in the selection menu? do you press the boss key?

oh and also I tried doing a full processing of the beatmaps but that doesn't seem to work out as well

Boss key or alt+tab if you want to minimize the game. Is that what you're asking?

yea how do you leave the game while being in the selection menu?

do you think that this might work?
1. converting the beatmap folders into beatmaps (.osz)
2. deleting all maps in game
3. re-adding the maps back again

i didn't try it out yet

The boss key should definitely minimize the game, even with the above setting disabled. Just forget minimizing for now. It's not really relevant to the issue.

Follow these steps exactly:
  1. Open osu!
  2. Click Play > Solo
  3. Leave the game open on that screen for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Close osu!
  5. Open your osu! folder. It seems like you already know where it is, but please ask if not.
  6. Open the Logs folder
  7. Edit the runtime.log file in Notepad
  8. Copy everything and post it on a reply to this thread
If any of those steps don't make sense, please ask and I will clarify them.

Are you still using Cutting Edge? Your initial post says you are, but I would expect that log to have more information assuming you are.

nope i use stable rn
i used to use cutting edge before switching to stable around September or so

EDIT:
also after posting the log here
I didn't close osu and kept it open for a long time in the background
when I open it now it finished calculating the beatmap difficulty

not sure how it happened but thanks for all the help
