I personally like being able to search for maps in-game without having to use a browser, and being able to quickly download new maps in multis. It's more convenient and you can find the map you're looking for easier. I wouldn't be able to find a lot of my most favorite maps without looking for them through osu!direct. It's not necessary, but after you use it, you can't go back
