Offset poll

Imagine a hit distribution chart telling you that you’re hitting notes, on average 4.5ms early (-4.5ms). To remedy this, should you move your offset to the right or to the left of 0?

Hello

For those who don’t follow ppy on twitter, he is currently working on implementing offset into osu!lazer. He’s been posting polls all day, and one particular one caught my interest as I believe the votes were way closer than they should have been. I wanted to see if the results would be any different if I asked the same question on the forums instead of twitter.

Keep in mind that this poll is what makes sense to you, and you shouldn’t vote solely based on what it currently is in stable.

here is the tweet with a visual describing the question if you need.

If moving the slider to the right means the offset is moved to the right (aka later), shouldn't that be what you do?

that’s how i interpreted it but apparently the majority of people didn’t

here’s a tweet from someone explaining their logic behind sliding left if you care, doesnt really make sense to me but 🤷‍♂️

man offset is confusing

Really it seems it just depends on what the player feels is being moved, the song or map.

if song, moving it left to line the audio up with the objects makes sense, if map then moving it right to get objects lined up to the music makes sense

though what's actually moving is the map. Meanwhile the offset in options moves the music.

its an issue of not being clear what is being moved, and is why people are confused why local offset and universal offset are opposites in stable. so labels and UI design will probably help.

seems that its been handled pretty nicely tbh
