Now that's a couple programs (I really ought to clean it up a little sometime).
This is what my desktop looks like (I mostly launch apps from the start menu for ease - especially when I'm running a bunch of heavy programs at once, i.e. Unity + Blender, etc.):

I have an animated background with live widgets that update as time passes with music tracking and a cool little effect around the globe that responds to audio. I pulled this off with Lively @ https://github.com/rocksdanister/lively (for the wallpaper) and Rainmeter @ https://www.rainmeter.net/ (for the widgets).
