I've heard of mania's
SHD
Fever
...
Well, and what about the "Level XX"?
Nice post :D
Dolphin
for beatmania; its Normal, not Standard. Extra is not a difficulty, it's just an extra song you get to play. Correct "Extra" difficulty name would be Black Another.
and for Pop'n Music, its Ex, nothing more.

In SOUND VOLTEX, can INFINITE i use is Extreme?

For Alternatives and Additions (osu!standard), add Another for Insane
Squigly
sorry! was stealing your pictures and clicked enter thinking it was my map ;w;
kingokinko
For osu!Mania there is:

  • - SHD
If you add that, that would be nice.
The Gambler
Other difficulty suggestions, although none of them are music-related. I guess other media references sound plausible

Evangelion Movies
-You Are (Not) Alone
-You Can (Not) Advance
-You Can (Not) Redo
-You Will (Not) Survive
-Get your act together, Shinji

Call of Duty
-Recruit
-Regular
-Hardened
-Veteran
-Idk for this one. Try "Zombies" b/c you're downright screwed on this one
Ciyus Miapah
Call of duty =/= osu

Sorry for the necro, but something bout this thread interests me.

This is nice
However, is Extreme seriously uncommon?
I prefer using it over Extra tbh
CuticleThong

Yes, literally means like this

Tsuduzki - Advanced. Kurouto has altered means
Kantan Oni - Easy Oni, equivalent to Hyper/Light Insane. I don't want this diff pronounced as Haaipa instead

Ura Kantan? Never heard about that

SOUND VOLTEX

Difficulty spread inspired by SOUND VOLTEX, heavily recommended to only use in maps for songs from there.
Note that the mania shortcuts are only a recommendation since you also need to fit a key count in most mania maps, so shortening the difficulty name as much as possible can benefit you, if you really want you can use "EXHAUST" in mania and "NOV" in osu!

osu!
  1. BASIC
  2. NOVICE
  3. ADVANCED
  4. EXHAUST
  5. INFINITE
osu!mania
  1. NOV
  2. ADV
  3. EXH
  4. INF
Most mania map's of SDVX contain the full diff. name, but those are nice shortcuts :)
Also INFINITE and GRAVITY (GTY [i don't know if that abbreviation is alright]) (missing) charts got introduce in SDVX (II) Infinite Infection and SDVX (III) Gravity Wars respectively. Gravity is used to be more difficult than Infinite.

CASUAL (Easy)
NORMAL (Normal)
HARD (Hard)
MEGA (Insane)
GIGA (Expert)

osu!mania

CAS (Easy)
NM (Normal)
HD (Hard)
MGA (Insane)
GGA (Expert)

Since the difficulty names are inspired from digital storage units, KILO, TERA, PETA (don't), EXA, ZETTA and YOTTA could also be used.

SOUND VOLTEX IV HEAVENLY HEAVEN

osu!

BASIC (Easy)
NOVICE (Normal)
ADVANCED (Hard)
EXHAUST (Insane)
MAXIMUM: This could really be either a high star Insane or an Expert.
HEAVENLY: Most likely to be used in high difficulties, such as 6*+.
Max Period
Geometry Dash
Difficulty levels parallels Osu very closely, except Hard is split into two parts (2.25-3.00 stars, and 3.00-3.75 stars). Demon (Expert / Extra) have 5 separate difficulty icon based on the star rating.

Star Ratings are for Osu, not Geometry Dash.

Easy (under 1.5 stars, as per Osu ranking criteria)
Normal (1.5-2.25 stars, as per Osu ranking criteria)
Hard (2.25-3.00 stars)
Harder (3.00-3.75 stars)
Insane (3.75-5.25 stars, as per Osu ranking criteria)
Easy Demon (5.25-6.00 stars)
Medium Demon (6.00-6.75 stars)
Hard Demon (6.75-7.50 stars)
Insane Demon (7.50 - 8.25 stars)
Extreme Demon (over 8.25 stars)

here's a bunch of obscure and sometimes limiting ones

k-shoot mania's default (old? everyone uses sdvx skins) skin actually uses:
LIGHT
CHALLENGE
EXTENDED
INFINITE
you could probably add on to this with sdvx special diffnames too

for lanota (ios/android):
Whisper (easy)
Acoustic (normal)
Ultra (hard)
Master (insane/expert+)
you could also shift these down or up a bit and add anything you think fits inbetween

for arcaea (also mobile):
Past (easy/normal)
Present (normal/hard)
Future (insane+)
that's all there is though

for groove coaster (ac/mobile, these are pretty self explanatory):
EASY (easy/normal)
NORMAL (normal/hard)
HARD (hard/insane)
EXTRA (expert+)
again not much room here
if you're going by the mobile version you could add "AC-" before each but kinda no purpose unless ur making some weird map with 2b/multitaps

and finally an old one, beat hazard (steam/mobile?):
Easy
Normal (normal/hard)
Hardcore (hard/insane)
Insane (insane/expert)
Suicidal (ultra+)

ok
Zymasis39
Why is the Insane range in GDash so wide?

https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/590341 This map uses more diff names inspired by the existing ones.

Just thought to update here since the thread was revived, the information from this thread + comments have been moved to the difficulty naming section of the ranking criteria.
It covers pretty much anything that is considered acceptable, and is a better reference point.

How about a diff in between easy and normal...how should it be named
Ricochet
The difficulty set i will use once i start mapping:

Complex - 2.91-3.8 Stars
Intense - 3.81-4.6 Stars
Frantic - 4.61-5.99 Stars
Unholy - 6-8.5 Stars
Hellfire - 8.51-9.99 Stars
Impossible/Shitmap - 10+ Stars

Team Fortress 2 Set
Unremarkable - 0-2 Stars
Notably Dangerous - 2.01-3.1 Stars
Wicked Nasty - 3.11-3.9 Stars
Rage-Inducing - 3.91-4.99
Hale's Own - 5+ Stars
Ricochet
Quantum/Atomic Physics Set:

Neutrino (Easy)
Proton (Normal)
Nucleus (Hard/Light Insane)
Gamma (Insane)
Nanotube (Hyper/Light Another)
Ionization (Another+)
SlightlyPsycho0
PAYDAY 2 difficulties:
Normal
Hard
Very Hard
Overkill (light insane)
Mayhem (insane)
Death Wish (extra)
Death Sentence (>extra)

Not sure if they'd be useful, but a possible SCP difficulty spread:
Neutralised (normal)
Safe (hard)
Elucid (insane)
Keter (extra)

Borderlands spread?:
Normal
True (hard)
Ultimate (insane)
Overpower (extra)

Most of these are probably useless but I thought i'd throw them here anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
[MTF] Wolfette
How bout a galactic themed ctb spread:

Pluto - cup
Venus - salad
Earth - platter
Saturn - rain
Jupiter - overdose

Organized by size btw
Oscyy
Ok seems like the diff naming theme a little bit starts to fly off to far, lets just stick to the usual thing that mostly used for the song reference itself, like another rythm game diffnames. Using movie or any other diffname theme is also cool but please use it only when the song is related to that
Dialect

Hard (advanced)

Harder (Hard)
