That is seriously getting over the line! The responsibility of these ISPs should be protecting everyone's privacy, not selling them.

The thing is that there is no reason that we should be moving backwards. As a first world country, we should be looking to move forward and progress. This isn't a huge, country breaking thing, but who knows where it will go from hereAurani wrote:

I'm not saying that what they did is right nor do I want to argue the moral implications, I'm saying that the person complaining is neither the right person to complain nor is on the right forum to complain about it.
As for my stance on it:
I see what he's trying to achieve, but when I look at my role in the society and the role of people with similar interests/of the same class, there are absolutely no implications what-so-ever when it comes to what those ISPs did. As such, it would be completely shallow and nonsensical to complain about something that doesn't even concern me.
It would be on the same level as leading a protest against raising taxes for the rich while you're sleeping naked under a bridge with nothing to eat for weeks.
Maybe it also has something to do with me thinking that that kind of thing leads to nowhere, contrary to what most people would argue. They just want your info for financial and security reasons. They won't go and monitor your toilet next. They want to learn how to strip you of your money faster and know that you aren't going around the city with 6 kilos of plastic explosive tied around your back.

There is a reason why they provide "garbage" services compared to other places and that is completely down to their company policies, not because they want to scam you. If you live in a remote region where you can only sign a contract with one ISP, that also influences their price to quality efficiency. After all, it's an internal market where they have absolutely no competition, so why should they give you more for your money?
Either way, the quality of your connection shouldn't really matter in this discussion, as we're talking about the morality of selling your info without your permission.
When it comes down to that, I do think that we shouldn't go and blow this out of proportion, like I said earlier. They won't put your info online for everyone to see. They won't look at your old photos or dickpics that you might've sent to that one girl 6 years ago and share them for the world to see. The line has already been drawn in that regard. They're COLLECTING your info, not SHARING it - and no, selling it to various marketing companies does not count as public sharing.

If you want information sites are requesting for cookies, if you want to download something you have to register first, etc. pp. This is nothing new and there is no way around except browsing with onion and removing all your scripts, but will you enjoy the internet without videos, pictures, videogames, you name it.
Don't be so starry eyed, privacy only exists in your house and if you have some serious business going on that you have to hide by any means you won't use the internet for that purpose.
