High Elves are high in intelligence and willpower with a high amount of magic skill bonuses. This could be a reference to the intelligence of the asians and their history with magic as opposed to the west's history.
In Europe magic was based a lot more off religions. You'd see pagan druids and christian monks bringing about restoration, mysticism, conjuration and alteration. Over in the far east, magic was coming along in a different way. They of course are strong in alchemy, and very potent with gunpowder giving them high levels of destruction!"
