「A hardened heart, o'er once a year,
opens up, with a trace of fear.
A life lived full, of love at long last,
now only a memory, a curse from the past.」
Hello Hunters! If you've obtained something you didn't expect, and have no idea why, I'd like to provide a bit of backstory.
cherry blossoms explode across the dying horizon is not a typical map. It's one of many "Presentation" maps that focus on providing an experience to the player, rather than a challenge. What makes this one special is not the content of the map, nor the music, nor the artist, nor any story of mine, nor what it foretold of osu!'s future.
It is all of those things that make this map special.
sakuraburst was part of the initial push to really legitimize osu! as a rhythm game to the public eye that we now know as Featured Artists. Beforehand, almost all music on here was by necessity or whim used without composer permission, and osu! as a platform would technically be redistrubuting it.
Featured Artists changed everything.
In making this map, I wanted to really capture what I knew would be the end of an era - to highlight what kinds of stories could be told with an intentionally simplistic mapping style and accompanying storyboard, before osu! really started ramping up as a rhythm game and both mapping and playing started focusing on using more and more technical details and challenges to push boundaries we wouldn't have dreamed of years earlier.
Thank you for playing my map. I hope you enjoyed it, the music, and the storyboard.
