Problem Details:
When playing offline the game will randomly crash after starting a map. Sometimes it can be instant or after a while. This resets the map database having you to refresh to get your new maps back and also resets the preferences from a last successful exit.

osu! version: 20160504.1 (latest)

Something on your end is likely causing this. Check the event viewer under windows logs -> application. There should be a log of the crash there.

Edit: I cleared my log and fished for another crash and it's coming up with the same errors. Nothing else is coming up in the log

Edit: To clarify I have a GTX 780 SC. Latest available drivers (365.19) with stock settings. Windows 10 64-bit. Did a disk check and everything seems to be fine on my ssd. My tablet is a CTH-680 running 6.3.9w5, but this issued occurred even with the latest drivers.

Looking at the crash log, there seems to be a problem with rights.
Are you sure you have admin rights for osu?
Try starting osu! explicitly with admin rights and also try repairing the rights in the options menu.

Tried what you said and the problem still occurs.

Edit: Even while online this happens.

Have you tried reinstalling the .NET framework and updating your graphics card drivers?
