i5 4690k with gtx 260 good for streaming osu?

I really only play osu right now, so gtx 260 is really fine for me. But my game gets pretty laggy once I start streaming. Im upgrading to a i5 4690k, but im wondering is this so much of a cpu issue, or a graphics card issue. I definitely know my current cpu is crap (i7 920), but will upgrading the cpu solve the problem whole? I'm really not familiar with the mechanics or whatever with streaming so I don't really know what I should upgrade in order to make my gameplay and the overall stream quality better.

tl;dr
does video encoding use both gpu and cpu or just cpu? and will upgrading my cpu stop my game from lagging when I stream?

thanks for answering my retarded question.

If you're upgrading to an i5 4690k, you will definitely want to upgrade your GPU as well. Otherwise, the GPU will bottleneck the CPU. I'd recommend getting a GTX 960 or 970 along with that CPU.

Although, do you know that you'll thoroughly enjoy streaming? Are you planning on doing other things as well as streaming? I can't say buying such expensive parts is a good idea if you're just starting out streaming, frankly.

I'll assume that you use OBS and haven't changed much of the default settings.

Streaming in that case will mostly just use your cpu, and upgrading the cpu will help with it. If playing osu! is all you do, there is no need to upgrade your gpu as that is more than capable of driving it.

You still might want to play around with some settings, mainly the x264 encoding preset.

Thanks, this pretty much answers everything.

Yeah, im fine with it for now. I don't know how much bottlenecking will go on with osu though. I don't really have the money to upgrade at the moment but il do it in the future.

Don't get an enthusiast grade graphics card unless you really care about how your games look, they are a waste of money. However, there's nothing stopping you from buying a 960, 970, or even a 980 as the i5-4690k is an excellent chip and would perform well with any of them. The only factor here is asking yourself if it's worth it.

However, for 2d everything from a 50$ bargain bin card to a 1000$ Titan X are essentially equal performers. You're not going to see much improvement in osu! frames by upgrading from your gtx 260.

just did this to support my case.

Yeah I know, il probably buy something like the 960 in the future though. Even though I only really play osu right now, il end up getting into other games sooner or later.

Thanks for that 2D graphics chart though, definitely can take some good information from it.

Definitely look to get a better graphics card it does not necessarily have to cost a to but it looks like a gtx 260 is a bit too old for your i5-4690k. I have the same processor and i would suggest if you can get a r9 370 as it is basically as powerful as a gtx 970 but around 100$ cheaper. If you can't get that go for a similar amd card due it being progressively cheaper than nvidia while still packing around the same if not more power.

You are most definitely going to need this for streaming osu for long periods of time, and who knows it could come in handy if there a triple a title you are looking to play.

I have a gtx 970 myself and the same processor :D

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%2 ... 2+-r7+-380

seriously what the hell is this, i had to exclude both 380 and r7 because that's all google wanted to show me, and once i did that there's basically nothing left but speculation and "exclusive leaks" of an upcoming release to a card that supposedly came out 7 months ago. Does it actually exist? Because as far as I can tell the released specs are all that gpuboss is going off of, and the one listed for sale claims to have 1792 Stream Processors which means it's an r9 380, not a 370. MY MIND IS FULL OF FUCK RIGHT NOW.

so just going off of what i COULD find..

it even loses out to the 960. it's not even listed on userbenchmark OR 3dmark's website which is utterly insane to me and means it doesn't exist noone who ever owned one actually benched it. this is the only thing i could find.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-370-v ... ce-GTX-960

however, i did compare the r7 370 to the r9 370 assuming they were even different chips at this point it's completely unclear to me because the r9 370 is apparently more of a GHOST than actual hardware, and found they were exactly equal in specs. so here's the r7 370 compared to the 970

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nv ... 77vsm30480

So now all im wondering is how you expected him to 'buy' such a card when i can't even find definitive proof that it ever even existed.

There is no r9 370. Only an R7 370, which is basically an R9 270. That GTX 260 shouldn't bottle neck you if you're going to be playing mainly osu, but for games like CSGO, LoL, DOTA 2, Battlefield, and CoD... Get at least a 750Ti. It's the strongest card at the 100$ and will be able to run those games at 1080p medium-high at 60 fps. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product May want to overclock it a little, though

i5 4690k is a great processor. I made a pretty budgeted built a while back which included the Nvidia GTX 750ti and it worked amazing for everything I ever needed to do/play. This is a considerable alternative considering streaming Osu! doesn't require a gtx 960 or whatever. Also, you'd be just wasting your time upgrading your processor and staying with the gtx 260 haha. (a great program for streaming is OBS btw! it's free and extremely customizable!!)
