Now that I'm thinking about it, it's not really hate against Magical Girl, it's one in particular, Sailor Moon, there's a long story with my sister that made me dislike this anime like Hell, but when I though back about it, I like some Magical Girl anime, like let's say Cardcaptor Sakura, I know it's weird for a guy but hey, nostalgia xD , otherwise I haven't seen enough to make a real judgement on it, I just didn't found a third genre I dislike and though about sailor moon so that's the first thing that popped in my headGreen Platinum wrote:

I watch pretty much everything except yaoi shows, it's not as much about genres as about the quality of the show.
Though most harems and recent mecha shows are outright awful. I don't even know why I'm still watching Ange. So I guess it's something like:

I suggest you go back and watch the original because Crystal is much better, Sailor Moon was always awful and it's only good parts are when Tuxedo Kame and Sailor Moon actually have a dynamic relationship not the constant Tuxedo Kame saves the helpless Sailor Moon that the original holds onto for way too long.

I'd like to see some reasoning behind peoples choices. I'd like to try and recommend stuff that will change peoples perceptions about their hated genres especially but I think this is more a comment once and never return thread.

The devices are the tech, yes, but magic itself isn't exactly that. Magic can be performed without devices and it's just giving shape to mana that mages have inside their bodies. Device acts as an amplifier of sorts that speeds up the process of executing spells.Green Platinum wrote:

Spells are literally calculations. You can do it on your own but you can do a lot more and faster with a processor (which devices actually are, or more specifically they are computers with highly advanced AIs acting as operating systems).

I find the best Mecha show are the ones that ultimately distract you from being a mecha show since conventional series rely on you treating the machines as characters rather than tools. Like Gurren Lagann, Suisei no Gargantia and Daimdaler they all use mecha as a means of storytelling rather than the purpose. Evangelion while I'm not too much of a fan it has it's popularity and deserves a mention.XenoMortem wrote:

Herems are generally the result of just copying some usually awfully written galge and trying to adapt it so it pleases everyone and awful ones really demonstrate it. However you could say Clannad and Kanon are technically harem anime as the focus on a central male character and a group of cute females but in terms of more traditional harems I'd point to Amagami or Mashiro-iro symphony (I just llke this one for some reason)
Magical girl animes are some what a rarity and are extremely hit of miss. Nanoha and Madoka are largely considered the two to see and focus one one story for the whole series. The majority of others operate on and monster of the week stucture which means you have to like the heroines to enjoy the show but once an important story arc happens the series can really pay off for your endurance. I always direct to Precure for these and I am definitely biased but they have their charming characters pay off arcs at around episodes 20-25 and 40-50.
