Woobowiz has explicitly referred to his current modus operandi as "farming," so I'm not making any assumptions about his map selection past what "farming" entails. As for the benefits of pp farming, I've already stated that although I believe the same results could be had with different, more time-efficient methods, it is a good way to improve consistency.winber1 wrote:
And therefore by definition it does not impede progress. If you didn't read my wall of text, you could at least read it through to see my reasoning as to why this "pp farming" helps. pp farming has such negative connotations, but you can't get anywhere without it (if you are to describe it as broadly as you are right now with woobowiz).
Personally I would say pp farming does not apply very often, and it is not applying to woobowiz, since he is not trying to maximize pp returns based on time efficiency. He's not fishing through profiles or osu!trainer for maps. He may be fc-ing half in hopes for pp, but also half in hopes to actually get the full combo itself (which is satisfying in it of itself and as I said ealier, actually helps master the largely unnoticed skills in osu!).
Woobowiz is neglecting to learn HR, plain and simple.
It wouldn't really matter, except that he's set an exceptionally high bar for himself, and if he wants to reach that bar any time soon he needs to be efficient with his plays. As someone who's reasonably familiar with both HR and DT and who's done more with fewer plays I feel I'm at least a little bit qualified to offer my opinions, however anecdotal, on how to do that. You can't compare Woobowiz's journey to that of other pros because he's attempting to reach a level of play that only one other player has ever reached. The bar is so much higher and he's years late to the game.
