I wouldn't say that I play competitively; I play for fun most of the time, but I do try to keep improving my rank and accuracy.
i play for both reasons

I started playing just for fun, there are so many songs that I like in this game :O. Now I play mainly competitively, sometimes trying to beat myself, sometimes trying to beat someone else's score (doesn't mean I actually manage to beat them lol D;) cause I have fun doing that . Anyways, when I'm just too tired for harder songs, or want to relax, I play the songs I love the most, just focusing on the rythm instead of the score I'm getting... i'd say it is one of the best ways to get relaxed, even more if the map is done with love by the mapper and fills the music nicely
