Well. As we are all aware (Most of us, anyways), the osu! Stream Compilation came out three years ago as of last week (Was approved then). I got thinking, and with the amount of compilation's on the database, I think it's time we discussed the second edition of the stream compilation and push to have it approved.

Now, with that said, I suggest we follow the same guidelines;
 1. No more then 15 minutes
 2. BPM increments of 5-10
 3. Starting BPM of 140
 4. Ending BPM of 260
 5. All credits to map creators in a storyboard, as well as BSS posting of the map with links provided
 6. Maximum of 20 maps (Please try to keep them from 2012 and on-wards)
 7. Minimum map time of 20 seconds within the map itself
 8. Maps below 200 bpm MUST be ranked, anything above must be approved at the very least
 9. An approach rate of 8 will be used. No higher, no lower. Don't bother asking for a change, this at LEAST keeps it fair
 10. Since there's a pack of whinging shitstains on the thread, AR will be 9. Don't bitch anymore, just post suggestions.
 11. Keep the death streams to the later end of the BPM scale I.E 200+
 12. Include more then just triplet spam. Aim for a mix of sliders to streams, and consistant streams with spaces. (I don't know how I could word this)
 13. No we're not adding Big Black. Or Chipscape. Or anything Dragonforce (Maybe, but more then likely no).
 14. When we've got a nice list of suggestions, we can look at voting using a StrawPoll to vote
 15. We'll look at trying to keep the map to default skin with decent colours
 16. Someone other then the likes of me to map it
Once we have an idea of maps to use and the order of use, we can move on to mapping it. The bigger the community input, the better the result will be. This will be a map voted by us to show some of the funnest, and some of the more difficult, streaming maps that aren't just death streams spammed across a BPM of 250 or higher.

If you have a map suggestion, post it like this so we can easily test it and see for ourselves. The more famous the map (Plays, passes, creator, so on), the more people will be inclined to give it a shot.

Map: <name>
URL: PUT THE URL IN HERE
BPM: <bpm number>
Difficulty: <difficulty on the map to use>
Section of song to use: <time on map> to <time of finished section>
Length:
Video (OPTIONAL): PUT THE URL IN HERE

Example:

Map: IOSYS - Power of Dream (Night Fever Refix)
URL: http://osu.ppy.sh/s/27152
BPM: 180
Difficulty: Power of Stream
Section of song to use: 1:42 to 2:05
Length: 23 seconds
Video (OPTIONAL): This is purely up to you. You can use a video with the full map, or just record and upload the section to youtube to help everyone out with your selection. This is not required.

If you're having trouble finding the timing on the map to use, just open it up in the editor, and then just goto the start of the section you want to use, and then goto the end of the section and post both the times.

All backgrounds for the maps will be from the song itself, and will be storyboarded in. There will be zero videos for the map.

So. Let's get crackin' ladies and gentlemen. Depending on the user in-put, will depend on when we begin the project! :D Let's see what posts we get! ^__^

I don't understand how it keeps anything fair considering no one puts ar8 on anything over 160bpm nowadays.

BPM: 180

Section of song to use: 1:15 to 1:38 It's a meh ending point, but if you want to keep it at 20~ seconds you can end it at a random stream finish like the 1:38 stream, doesn't matter

Section of song to use: 1:26 to 1:51 - I think starting on the 1:26 triple and ignoring the last spinner to keep it at a better time range would be the best idea.
Length: 25 seconds

Map: xi - time files
URL: http://osu.ppy.sh/s/49843
BPM: 200
Difficulty: Another
Section of song to use: start to 0:22 when the combo ends
Length: 22 seconds
Ascension to heaven is another good 200bpm stream map.

Obligatory:
Map: xi - freedom dive
URL: http://osu.ppy.sh/s/39804
BPM: 222
Difficulty: four dimensions
Section of song to use: 2:41 to 3:02 (ends really randomly)
Length: 21 seconds
You can use the part with streaming near the end of the another difficulty if you don't want to include a spaced deathstream map like four dimensions.

I'm awful at identifying good times for the section of song to use, but here are some suggestions.

comments about my picks
Alright i picked some maps and i think that i'll tell why here

 1. Pachelbel's Canon could be a good start, the BPM is slow and there are a lot of streams. Only downside is maybe that there is a big deathstream, and at this speed it could be pretty annoying for some players xD honestly i don't really like the quality too but i gave a try
 2. I could pick the kiai part on Noushou Sakuretsu Girl, but it contains many sliderstreams, and the beginning have more streams, so...
 3. This stream compilation should have MENDES in it, even if there's a deathstream, it could be a little challenging too
 4. the nature of dying could also be a good pick: many streams, nice flow, etc.. also, the 1/8 aren't that annoying (compared to forgotten asdassdds)
 5. hmm, ascension of heaven is just a giant deathstream and i hesitate to pick it, but for now i'll leave it here
 6. NNRT is a fun and very challenging map, good and fast streams, what else
 7. Distorted Lovesong could be a good pick to end this stream compilation, but it is kinda short and i think people are going to suggest Image Material, so... =w= Otherwise, this should be the last map, idkwhy

 6. No we're not adding Big Black. Or Chipscape. Or anything Dragonforce (Maybe, but more then likely no).
140 is a little bit too fast for the beginning, i think it should be lowered to 120 (no singletap plssss).
I was about to say something about 260 BPM but there is Image Material so nevermind. Still, there are very few songs above 240 which contains a lot of streams (idk about Forgotten), so it could be a big gap D:

I agree with the fact that you aren't gonna add Big Black (hello high SV + spacing) and Chipscape (those 1/8 asdadsdasd) but i do think that a DragonForce map should be added. The spacing isn't that high, and except that slider-stream part on Cry for Eternity, those maps are challenging without being a total nonsense !

(about AR, i think 9 fits way better since the BPM keeps increasing)

I wasn't sure what kind of difficulties to include, it has been 3 years and players have gotten better, but I didn't want to pick things too difficult. I picked two hard ones regardless.

Do you know why stream compilations start at low BPMs?
And players that can follow AR8 are very well able to stream far into it already.

This was my main reasoning behind my choice. When the first compilation came out I could make it just barely half way. Now I'm nearing the end with a 1500+ combo. A lot of people can follow AR9 and 10, but the majority can't. It's a map aimed at highlighting the entertaining maps, not the hardest. If it was the latter I would of just said "approve the deathstream comp map pls.)".

I rather a map people can try their best at, not one to appease the elite.

Currently at work. Loving some of the suggestions. Will check them out when I'm home.

Someone should make a compilation compilation to highlight all of the shitty compilations we've had so far. I mean, yeah, woo, let's mux some songs together with zero relation to one another.

[Sean] wrote:

Are you planning on mapping, or getting others to map it, or are you going to copy paste the sections of the original maps? If it's the latter, I don't think that's right unless you get express permission from every user that made the original maps.

[Sean] wrote:

Keeps what fair? And for who? This kind of thing is aimed at people who are actually competent at the game, and ar9 is used as a base for almost every map due to it being not too fast, and not too slow. Forcing ar8 on players once it reaches the 200bpm mark is actually really rude, which is why you should either cap out at 200 and use ar8, or just do the smart thing and use ar9.

[Sean] wrote:

This ties into what I said earlier, about the map being aimed at competent people. You will actually find most people can't read approach rate 8.

All in all, compilations are a joke, and are done for an easy approved map, rather than actually taking the time to either find a long enough song, or just making a full spread of a shorter map.
jesse1412
I still need to make the deathstream compilation 3. Half of these suggestions aren't very good deathstream maps however. Also these shouldn't ever be ranked.

Deathstream compilation
Deathstream compilation 2
Compilation 2
Compilation 3

Plenty of maps but they don't need rank/app.

Makes more sense to cater to the players who are going to beat the map, no people who will get only half way.

Also, have you ever played high BPM at low AR? The notes get mega stacked. I know this is a 'Stream Compilation' but the first stream compilation wasn't 100% streaming.

A lot of people can follow AR9 and 10 because it's the most comfortable AR for most people and the most commonly used AR for Insanes. The "majority" you're talking about that can't read AR9 consists of people who a) Can't even follow aim properly yet, b) Definitely can't stream high bpm's yet. A stream compilation map for people who can't stream to "try their best at" is just gonna be a mashfest with NF for them, it wouldn't even be fun, and I doubt any would even play till the end.

tl;dr AR8 is just stupid.
GoldenWolf
AR8 made some sense in the first compilation because most maps were designed for that AR back then (but even so, 200BPM+ AR8 is a pain orz)
Most Insanes since 2012 are designed for AR9 (because jumps/high spacing in general and faster sliders) so AR8 is a bad idea

I also fail to see the point of making a Stream Compilation "noobs friendly" with a low AR if they won't even get past the 180BPM range no matter what AR you pick...
thelewa
hell, wasn't EVERY map, aside from Rog-Limitation, AR8 in the old stream compilation anyway
Illkryn
Can confirm AR8 on high bpm is gay as hell
RaneFire
As much as I like AR8, most of the maps you will be considering are AR9. I don't see a reason to bring maps which were originally AR9 down to AR8 for the purpose of a compilation. People will also be practicing the original maps if they struggle on those sections in the compilation.

The lower BPM maps are just an "introduction" imo - if they're AR8 originally, it doesn't matter if you make them AR9. The maps closer to the end are the most critical, and should be an appropriate AR.

Those people who "can't read AR9" will have bigger problems reading higher bpm's at AR9, not the low bpm maps. If they have problems reading lower BPM's at AR9, then there is no way they can read higher BPM's at AR8, which they won't get to anyway, and those maps are originally AR9, so they won't be able to practice them either. Don't design for players who will only play half the map, rather make half a map for that.

nooblet wrote:

You mean mash. The first one was not entirely stream, allowing you to do that into the higher BPM's. I know because I did that when I started. Although I must admit that was fun at the time, because I felt good (STOP GIVING ME A FALSE SENSE OF SKILL), why do the same thing again.

Edit: Revise ending comment.
Soarezi
AR8 isnt necessarily hard, however following AR8 on high BPM is very hard.

Just gone through nearly all the suggestions. Some good one's there.

Changed it to AR9 to stop the bitching. The fact people need to go to such lengths to explain their reasoning as to why is has to be AR9 annoyed me way too much. I won't bother going to an extent to reply to each and every single one so I'll let the babies have their bottle for an idea anyways. We'll leave it at that.

I'm thinking we avoid deathstreams/long streams till later in the map. By that I mean either streams linked through sliders, or streams over 20 notes a go. We can deal with them at earlier maps, but we'll see if we can keep the spacing for them a little tighter to make it easier. The map is to gradually build in difficulty, so I hope we can find a nice balance.

I'll hunt through my own maps in a minute. Be sure to give feedback on other people's suggestions since we're attempting an agreeance as a group, and not "What I decide" since I know I'll make stupid decisions in maps.

Whole game is based on copyrights infrigment. If you put name of the creator in map description/storyboard it's fine. Or just pm people and if someone disagrees before 7 work days, then his/her part shall be removed.
