I think lots of forum people are fans of Monster Girl Quest. It's a bit different from your usual eroge but it's funny lol

I haven't read it but Fate/Stay Night is supposed to be an eroge with a good plot. (I have watched the anime/read the novel of the "prequel" Fate/Zero and loved it though) Cons are that it's really long (might be bad or good for you) and the erotic scenes are reputed to be awkwardly done. But if you really want to I guess you can just skip them. Also don't watch the anime of Fate/Stay Night, heard it wasn't so great and is different from the original Visual Novel.
Also a free English VN is Katawa Shoujo. I've played through all of the routes but one, overall I enjoyed it. The routes are all quite different, some are extremely serious and some have comedic moments, so you may find that there is one that you love and the rest don't fit your tastes in terms of plot/writing/etc. (My favorite was Rin :3)
