Lots of people alternate and lots of people singletap. I chose the latter because I think replays are sexier when a high bpm song is mostly singletapped (aside from streams), as opposed to alternate.

It's not really strange to alternate, but it isn't exactly a popular play style either (considering how few people alternate compared to single tapping). I alternate at all times myself, but it wasn't exactly natural. I had to learn how to alternate since I'm ridiculously slow at single tapping. You should use whatever style works for you, in the end it all comes down to preference.
A far more interesting play style is alternating between tablet tap and keyboard key at all times. Black Sheep, TTTL and Amamiya Yuko are some players who play like this. Alternating keyboard is one thing, but alternating like that is just crazy, I simply lack the coordination to do it properly (would love to learn this play style though).

I just started to learn alternating because my stamina is rock bottom so it's a way for me to get tired less quickly. It's hard when short sliders and 1/4 notes are mixed in though, and I have an annoying habit when I end up holding both keys on a slider that's 1/4 after a note which also screws me over.
Single tapping increases your stamina whereas alternating doesn't. I single tap because I can't alternate to save my life but I'd really love to learn to alternate so I can play fast songs.

Alternating allows working on both fingers at once; knowing how to start combos/streams with either finger is very important/

I alternate anything above like 170 bpm because I am not quite fast enough to single tap 1/2 at that bpm accurately. I can generally get 98+% acc alternating on pretty much anything, but am still more accurate at single.

I play Rudiments! So it depends on the song and positioning of notes. Sometimes alternating, sometimes single tap, However I would drum it, or however I interpret the flow of the notes. paradiddles and doubles show up alot.
I single tap stuff that I can single tap (no idea on the bpm range), and alternate for stuff I can't single tap (relatively fast streams).
