Another wasn't scary, but it's hard to find horror anime these days. You can say atleast it has a scary theme/setting to it.
anything with the realistic character design with the dark story/plot/etc are considered by horror to me.
Another certainly seems a lot like a proper horror anime rather than a murder mystery anime posing as a horror anime.

Red Garden works as an urban horror tale. Don't look into the supernatural elements all that much, though.

Another is, unfortunately, pretty dumb. It has a good atmosphere over the first few episodes, but then it becomes Final Destination: The Anime, with a "mystery" that's only hard to figure out because you are given an abundance of information but not several critical pieces that are necessary to solve it. The characters behave unrealistically even within the acceptable boundaries of the medium, to the point where their fates left me completely uninterested.
But since it's so short, you might as well watch it and see what I'm talking about.

Ironically, when I recommended Another to some friends I used Final Destination as a way of explaining what to expect. As far as unrealistic behavior... I can see that, but I don't think it was too bad. I enjoyed it, anyway.Sinistro wrote:

School Days doesn't remotely count as horror. Just because of the ending doesn't make it so. Hell, the ending doesn't even qualify, as it'd just be more of a thriller than anything else.
