This is a compilation of various personalities of note from the osu! community, both current and retired. Please exercise judgement when putting in new entries.

Cookiezi[1] is a tablet user from South Korea who has been playing for over 3 years. His most commonly used difficulty mod in osu! is Double Time which increases the entire beatmap's speed by 150%. He plays tablet + keyboard, and has very accurate cursor precision. He is arguably the best player overall next to White Wolf. Cookiezi's channel on YouTube.
Current status: Quit. (Currently he plays StarCraft 2 [2])

E

Echo[3] is one of the osu! developers present. He is attributed to the creation of Banchobot under his former screenname, Echo49. Among his many contributions to the osu! community are his IRC integration of the in-game chat and his general site maintenance.
Current play status: Unknown.

Emaal[4] is both a modder and a former mapper that is somewhat well-known by the community.
Current status: Unknown.


G

geckogates[5] is a tablet user from the United States. He has 2 years of playing experience and has risen fast to the top 10 on the overall rankings. He improvises a way to connect some wires with something like "metal mesh" to his keyboard, allowing him to comfortably stream without the need to even use a button. geckogates's web site (Included are his Youtube Channel, Picasa and more items). He no longer has the metal wires and has gone back to hitting buttons.
Current status: Active. (Ranked #2 [15th June, 2012])

J

James[6] is an osu! player and mapper who joined Jan 20, 2008. He is most infamous for the creation of James' Training, which many players referred to as a way of improving their skills. He was introduced to the osu! Hall of Fame on Feb 05, 2008, and is recorded to have done 125 mods in a single week, having run out of beatmaps to mod by the 5th day.
Current status: Unknown.

K

Kanopu[7] is a japanese taiko player who is currently rank #1 in both Ranked Score and Performance Points rankings in the Taiko ranking boards. As of 6th May, he also has amassed over 3,000 Taiko top ranks.
Current status: Active.

Larto[8] is a friendly German long time mapper and former active BAT. He's mapped the entire "Here, Here and Here" album by himself and puts effort into creative patterns and difficulty spreads.
Current status: Non-active.

M

MetalMario201[9], also known as mm201, is an osu! developer and is also part of the osu! team. mm sliders are named after him. See also Mm201's wiki userpage

N

nuudles[10] is the primary, if not sole, creator of the first iPhone osu! application.
Current status: Non-active.

O

osuplayer111[11] is an italian mapper and tablet/keyboard player who joined in Aug 2008. He currently has the highest kudosu score (with 1601 kd), the highest BAT score (with 3153 (724 ranked)) of all time and is the second user, first Italian and first BAT to get over 100 ranked songs.
Current status: Active.

peppy[12] is the online alias of Dean Herbert, creator and primary developer of the code and sprites that make osu! tick. Note that the first letter written in lowercase. In addition to being the project leader, he oversees the interface/skin design, the site design, and server maintenance.

Rucker[13] is a Taiwanese player widely considered #2 in skill on osu!. He plays tablet with keyboard. Rucker's Youtube.

Saturos[14] is a standard osu! player from the United States who joined Nov 21, 2007. He is notable for being one of the best players of his time. He was admitted to the osu! Hall of Fame on Feb 05, 2008, and stands now as an osu! Alumni. He is the only player to be able to transcend Rank 1 and achieve Rank 0. Please refer to this topic for further information.

SiLviA[15] formerly known as SILVIA S15 is a Japanese standard osu! mouse + keyboard player who is consistently ranked in the top 50. SiLviA is arguably the greatest mouse + keyboard player on osu! SiLviA is known for very high accuracy and consistently challenging and ranking highly in difficult songs. SiLviAs YouTube channel on YouTube.

SapphireGhost[16] is the nicest BAT you will ever meet on osu!, A great mapper and modder. SapphireGhost demands people to ask questions therefore ask random stuff whenever you have the chance to while SapphireGhost is online on osu! (except it was actually in reference to his somewhat inactive Formspring account) , SapphireGhost is also a PC Tablet User.

U

Uan[17] is a Taiwanese tablet + keyboard player who is currently in the top 10 in terms of ranked score and places #1 in Taiwan. He is a hardworking player with an astonishing number of plays (over 150,000, over 2000 of which come from 1 map alone[18]). Though not the best in terms of skills he is widely loved by the osu! community for being friendly and one of the only few in the top 10 who actually bother to chat with other strangers in-game.

W

White Wolf[19] is a Polish osu! player and current #1 player in terms of ranked score. White Wolf overtook Cookiezi as #1 on November 4th, 2011. Cookiezi had previously held the top position for 215 days.
