I'm not sure where this should be posted - hopefully I have picked the correct section.

I find it wholly inappropriate that the word 'gay' is replaced with 'straight' in osu! chat, even with the language filter option turned off.

I don't find homophobic misuse of the word 'gay' offensive at all nor do the majority of other gay people that I have talked to. However I find this word filtering pretty offensive, as it completely changes the meaning of chat messages in private multiplayer chat without the person speaking even being aware what they have said has been altered.

I am aware the game is targeted at a 13+ (or 3+?) audience, and I simply find it inappropriate and ridiculous the need was felt to add this filter for such an audience.

I hope I will not be met with homophobia in a game I thought I could trust to be the exact opposite.

Edit: For the avoidance of doubt, changing what the word is filtered to or making it obey the language filter option is not good enough. The filter needs to go completely.

That is pretty damn ridiculous. I hope this is resolved in a very timely manner. I'm very disappointed in the osu development team. Easily a +1.

wouldn't it make more sense to say "+1" to a feature request instead of something like this
FINALLY. THE IDEAL MINION. WITH THE TYPE OF POWER I ADMIRE THE MOST.
WHICH IS. BEING A HUGE STRONG GUY WITH ENORMOUS POWERFUL MUSCLES!

Considering this a feature request completely devalues the argument which is why I didn't post there

All +1 is, is just saying I agree with what's being said. Doesn't have to be limited to feature requests.

Not exactly the most osu player, but either way this word filter doesn't make sense. There's no purpose to it. (So +1 :P)

Well I have to agree that some of the word filters are pretty damn stupid

I especially love how "fag" turns into "guy" so when I try to speak to my friend who is named faggu, the filter changes it to "guygu". Lovely.

I would like this filter removed also, but given the audience I can appreciate the reasons for it a lot more so than the 'gay' filter.

I agree with this, why do we have an option to Enable/Disable filter offensive language if it isn't going to work properly?

It should be on by default, and then let the user decide wether he wants to disable it or keep it if he finds offensive words annoying.

Agreed, had situations recently where it's completely changed the context of a conversation. (And made them confusing before I found out that was the filter)
I get that this game is being targeted at 3+ now but I could've swore that's what the optional filter was for rather than this over-zealous forced one.

It's not an inappropriate word even for 3+.

If this is filtered even optionally it's quite simply not good enough.

I understand that the word "gay" is filtered, but not to "straight". If I wanted to say "I am proud to be gay", it would turn into "I am proud to be straight". That is a bit of an issue.
Sorry if my english is off, I only speak Canadian.

In this case it'd be best to just unfilter the word and to just punish those who abuse the word in ways that are actually offensive. I agree with this topic.

I disagree - any filtering at all of a completely innocuous word like 'gay' can only be considered homophobic (or dumb depending on intentions)

If the solution is to change the filter or to make it obey the language filter setting, I'm not going to be satisfied. It needs to be removed 100%.
