i've mostly been playing muzukashii diffs but i noticed that pretty much all of them only use one type of 1/4 pattern, that being a ddd or kkk triple, while moving up to oni introduces nearly everything else (like dkd/ddk/ddkkd) all at once. are there maps that bridge the difficulty gap in smaller steps or is it just something to get used to?

its just building muscle memory, play lower bpm oni to learn the more complex patterns then you will start to recognize and naturally play them on higher bpm

This is a pretty huge problem I feel about taiko mapping right now, people make muzu's always the same difficulty and make it incredibly hard to find harder muzus for people struggling to jump from muzu to oni.

You'll just have to try finding maps that challenge you and gradually improve, I can't think of many harder muzu's.

Sadly this is pretty common in taiko no tatsujin too. If you wanna play those pattern just play lower bpm to improve it
