Rekindling is a project to revive the formerly defunct HappyStick Seasonal Tour format with a similarly ambitious, albeit more sustainable model. The osu! tournament scene, without the HST, is severely lacking in large-scale 1v1 tournaments for a wide set of rank ranges. The niche filled by HappyStick’s flagship tournament has been left void, without a similarly-sized tournament to fill it -- which is what Project Rekindling is all about. Featuring six rank ranges of 128 players each, Rekindling aims to revive and continue to provide an exciting tournament experience for players from rank 1 all the way to rank 80,000, whether they’re seasoned tournament veterans or newcomers to the tournament scene.

Rekindling is a 1v1 osu!standard tournament in two stages:
  1. In the Lobby Stage, encompassing the rounds of 128, 64, and 32, players will compete in 8-man free-for-all lobbies. These rounds will be single-elimination, with the top 4 in each lobby moving on and the bottom 4 being eliminated from the tournament.
  2. Starting with the Round of 16 in Week 3 all the way through the finals in Week 6, the tournament will switch to 1v1 Matches in a Double Elimination Bracket. In this format, everyone starts out in the Winners Bracket. If you lose once, you will drop down to the Losers Bracket but still have a chance to fight your way to victory. If you lose again in the Losers Bracket, you are eliminated.

The ranking tiers are as follows:
  1. 1 - 999
  2. 1000 - 6999
  3. 7000 - 17999
  4. 18000 - 34999
  5. 35000 - 54999
  6. 55000 - 80000

Signups will be hosted on the official Rekindling website, opening on May 27 at 20:00 UTC. To register you’ll be asked for your osu! username and to authorize Discord access, and you’ll also be asked to provide your availability for initial schedules. You’ll be added to our Discord server to ensure we can reach you if necessary. Please ensure that your Discord username matches your osu! in-game username for ease of contact. We’re expecting players to be online on Discord before and during their matches. Signups will be first come first serve, meaning that the first 128 players who sign up for each rank range will be accepted.

  1. Rekindling is an international osu!Standard tournament.
  2. Rekindling will be played using Scorev2.
  3. All match times will be in UTC. Find your personal time zone and convert your match times here: http://www.timeanddate.com/time/map/
  4. The Grand Finals will be played with a bracket reset if applicable.
  5. Staff members may play, but they may not participate in any staff context in the rank range they are playing in -- referees may not referee their own rank range, and mappoolers may not mappool for their own rank range (head mappoolers may not play at all).
  6. Each week’s schedules and mappools will be released on the Monday before that week’s matches.
  7. If you get a name change during the tournament, please communicate it to staff as soon as possible.
  8. If a player is deemed to have behaved inappropriately during a match, he/she may be penalized at the discretion of the referee and/or staff. This can include, but is not limited to, intentional throwing, fake disconnects, disrespect towards staff and/or opponents.

LOBBY STAGE RULES:
  1. Make sure you’re online at least 15 minutes before your assigned match time on both osu! and Discord. You will have been assigned a referee who will invite you to the multiplayer room. Turn off “block messages from non-friends” and “block multiplayer invites from non-friends”.
  2. If a player is late for their match, they may join in progress, receiving 0 points for all previously played maps.
  3. In Lobby Stage matches, 7 maps will be played.
  4. Your placement after each map during the Free For All stage gives points as follows:
    1st = 6 points
    2nd = 4 points
    3rd = 3 points
    4th = 2 points
    5th and lower = 0 points
  5. During the Lobby Stage the top 4 players from each lobby proceed to the next round; the bottom 4 are eliminated from the tournament.
  6. If after all maps are played there is a tie for 4th and 5th place, a tiebreaker map between players involved in the tie will determine the result.
  7. The Lobby Stage will not feature warm-up picks.
  8. There will be no map banning mechanic during the Lobby Stage.
  9. Map picks will be determined by a lobby-wide !roll with the highest !roll picking the map. Once you’ve won a !roll and picked a map you can no longer !roll in subsequent rounds. If two or more players tie for the highest !roll, those players will be asked to re-!roll.
  10. In lobbies with fewer than 7 players, once all players have selected a map the !roll will reset and all players may !roll again.
  11. Players will have two minutes to select a map; if they fail to pick during this time, the pick will go to the player with the second-highest !roll.
  12. A free-mod pick must include Hidden, Hard Rock, and/or Easy; each player may individually decide which mod(s) to use.
  13. Players are allowed, but not required, to use Hidden and/or Hard Rock on tiebreakers.
  14. If a player disconnects within the first quarter of a map as observed by tournament staff, the map will be re-played.
  15. If a player disconnects after the first quarter of a map as observed by tournament staff, the map results will stand as played.

BRACKET STAGE (1v1) RULES:
  1. The 16 players per ranking tier who advance to the third week will be seeded by total points gained during the Lobby Stage into a 1v1 Double Elimination bracket to play out the remainder of the tournament.
  2. Players have a 10 minute grace period to be ready for their match. If a player is not ready for their match after 10 minutes, their opponent will receive a win by default.
  3. In the Bracket Stage, the winner of each Winners Bracket match advances in the Winners Bracket, while the loser drops to the Losers Bracket. Players who lose in the Losers Bracket are eliminated from the tournament.
  4. Bracket Stage matches will be best of 9 maps until the Finals matches, which will be best of 11.
  5. Bracket Stage matches will feature warm-up maps and one map ban per player. For these matches, each player will !roll, and the winner of the !roll will have the first warm-up, second ban, and first pick.
  6. Players will have two minutes to ban and pick maps, enforced by a referee !mp timer 120. If a player fails to ban during the allotted time, the match will proceed with only one banned map. If a player fails to pick during the allotted time, the pick will pass to the other player. This will have no effect on the order of picks afterward.
  7. Warm-up picks must be osu!standard maps of 4 minutes or less in drain time. The referee will hold host at all times so please be prepared with a map (/b/ link) to post in chat.
  8. There is no restriction on map selection order; players may select any available map at any time regardless of mod.
  9. A free-mod pick must include Hidden, Hard Rock, and/or Easy; each player may individually decide which mod(s) to use.
  10. Players are allowed, but not required, to use Hidden and/or Hard Rock on tiebreakers.
  11. The Grand Finals will feature a bracket reset. This means that the player advancing from the Winners Bracket has to only win one best of 11 series to be crowned champion, while the player from the Losers Bracket must win two series to become the victor.
  12. If a player disconnects within the first quarter of a map as observed by tournament staff, the map will be re-played.
  13. If a player disconnects after the first quarter of a map as observed by tournament staff, the opponent decides if the map is redone or not
