How long did it take YOU to "consistently" FC maps

Hi. How are you. I'm fine. Thanks. As the title says, how long in your osu career did you notice yourself capable of pulling off more FCs then you used to? I understand everyone chokes, or shitmisses that's why I put "" on consistently in the title. But there has to be some point when you can confidently say that you can march into a map that is well at your level of playing OR BELOW and FC it without tearing your hair out after 50 retries on the first 10 notes. I need some advice/tips people.

I've been extremely infuriated lately to the point of despair at even thinking of trying to FC even a fucking 4.2 STAR MAP. I can literally SS the map up until 1 DAMN MISS and just lose the will to even play the map again.

Is there just some mystical level where you nerves stop getting to you so badly, I mean my heartrate goes up to dangerous levels just by having a 250 combo on a 450 total note map. Once I lose the FC I untense and just feel well, you probably know the feeling. Shity.

My highest ever pp score is a 1 miss 99% and everytime I go back to that map to try and FC it properly I can't even get over 20 combo anymore. There is some mental block preventing me from trying maps I've choked on in the past, and It's like some huge looming shadow of a hurdle in the distance preventing me from feeling like I'm getting any better at this game.

I'm sorry this is the umpteenth post about this, a few of those umpteenth being my own already but I seriously am trying to find a reason as as to what to do about this doom and gloom feeling.

If you give me a "play more" then so help me, Ill shit fire at you if I have to.

This stupid facebook post I saw is actually an accurate summary of how I feel after I choke an FC. This choking is just a bit different.

From December 2014 to August 2015 I got at least one fc a day everyday. On average like 3. Built up from 100 to 250pp plays over that course of time.

Fcing is too fucking stressful and that period of time seems so long in my memory.

It's my least favorite aspect of this game hands down.

Then I started playing 4k and stepmania and found it a way better game even though I had 1000+ hours in osu standard.

Never.

Half my top ranks are still A's... I think it's because i don't enjoy playing ranked maps as i find MOST of them bland and boring and i am not good enough to fc maps that i like.

People will tell you to play marathons... I played a lot of marathons, i think my best "maximum combo" is not that bad but it didn't really help me because i wasn't really trying. If you try to get good at anything by doing something, try to do that "something" good and not just think "i'm doing it because i have to do it".

So maybe you aren't enjoying yourself playing like you are, maybe you need to play more longer maps... If you enjoy them. Maybe you think too much about your rank instead of your personal skill improvement which could make you nervous when you play.

About a year of playing and months of grinding out marathon maps, it was until recently I have back to back FCs on some 4.7* - 5* marathon maps

You're right, I don't enjoy trying to FC anything, I enjoy challenging myself to play shit I have no place trying to beat. If you told me I could make it through https://osu.ppy.sh/b/1095418&m=0 [Ultimate] 6.3* until I hit my limit at the crazy streams 2 months ago, then I wouldn't believe you. I enjoy trying that ludicrously difficult map for my current skill level and seeing myself get 300 combo and 93% accuracy. I enjoy that, but I won't get anywhere by doing stuff like that.

It's a 3:2 ratio between consistent FCs and choke plays respectively for me. Tbh, I just recently started getting consistent FCs when I turned off mouse precision since at the time, my aim is kind of a roulette, which is either a shitmiss or a hit.

In your case tho...

play more (plz don't beat me up). But since I also have get the feeling sometimes, I'll advice you to breathe... Yes, breathing. In playing a map, you get so tensed up in your mind thinking that "Oh boi Im gonna fc this sht" and the pressure just lets you focus on the map and nothing else but that, and in doing so, you completely forget to breathe normally (remember how the heart goes fast coz it needs oxygen?) so yeah, steady breathing. Heck what am I talking about, play more is already enough advice coz it just develops through experience.

Indeed mashing maps that you can not possibly pass is not the right solution, for me (and i believe many other people) the best way to improve is to play maps that are challenging to pass (not by mashing) or fc and do it.

Say play more again. SAY PLAY MORE again! And I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker! Say PLAY MORE one more time.

Jokes aside, I will try your breathing advice. After seeing a video of Rohulk literally hyper ventilate while trying to FC L.S.A.O United https://youtu.be/vjommq5iUL4?t=297 I see why breathing properly is important to keeping nerves down. I also used to suffer from panic attacks so deep breathing is not new to me.

I actually really wouldn't say I mash or really have much trouble up until those 260bpm streams come in, but to see myself follow rhythm and jumps at that speed well enough to make it that far into a 6.3* map is what I can find fun. On the other hand, mashing to BASSDROP FREAKS(Hai), I will admit doesn't do anything and is mostly just me fucking around to see how I can comprehend it.

I personally find a comfortable grip and good arm support go a long way, I used to get nerves from fukin TV size maps, cause there's so much strain on my hand and arm, after changing my mouse trying out grip styles and slowly developing good muscle memory, I am able to relax my hand and arm when FCing or even when mouse drift is fucking up my hand.
