[Archived] osu! Crashes after showing scores

Problem Details:
Sometimes osu! crashes when trying to submit scores the result screen is there but when i hit escape the game just freezes and same in mp if i come to result screen only a black screen is shown i have to hit alt+f4 to get to the lobby again
same problem with osu stable and cutting edge!

Hello, have you tried repairing osu!
Here are steps you can do to repair osu!
Method 1: Launch Repair Dialog
  1. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
  2. While holding Shift, double click the osu! icon on your desktop.
  3. Continue holding Shift until you see the recovery dialog prompt.
  4. From there, click on the "Repair osu!" option
Method 2: Shortcut
If you have the "repair osu!" Shortcut, opening that also works.


Method 3: Config Shortcut
If you don't have the "repair osu!" Shortcut, you can create one instead.
  1. Right click osu!.exe > Create a shortcut
  2. Open properties of the shortcut
    1. Select then Alt + Enter or
    2. Right click > Properties
  3. Set Target to ...\osu!.exe -config
  4. Press OK then open the shortcut
Method 4: Text document
You can also force the updater to run by creating a new text document in your osu! folder called "help". Right-click in an empty space in your osu! folder, and choose New > Text Document.

Name it help and then run osu! to start the updater in forced maintenance mode.

try enabling compatibility mode through options or the repair osu! exe.

i don't want to play with that on cuz it causes input lag is there any other fix

Download the osu!.exe file from here
After that, replace it with your old one and try again
Does it still happen?

Otherwise, could you tell me where osu! is currently located? It might be placed somewhere (a USB perhaps) and thus the transfer of data is slow
Which makes the loading of menus slower
High RAM usage can cause this too.

Also, try repairing the folder permissions like so

This could be an issue with your account.
Try making another administrator account and try to fix the folder permissions again using that account.
(Please refrain from double posting next time, just edit your latest post.)

Since this is my only account I'll try to activate the admin account and try to do it there but can it be that it has to do something with the amount of beatmaps/files that need to be fixed? or that the osu! folder has the compress attribute?

Before anything else, when osu! Crashes, click on the crying girl and post the log here.
It'll help a lot and we'll be able to pinpoint what's causing it to crash

Try using stable(latest) Does it still happen?
Try moving osu! to another directory. It might fix it.
You can also do another fresh install of osu! in another location using the old installer.

You can also manually set the permissions yourself but it's gonna take some steps
  1. Navigate through the root folder of osu! and open up the properties
    1. Select then Alt + Enter or
    2. Right click > Properties
  2. Go to Security tab and click on Advanced
  3. Go to Owner tab and click on Edit...
  4. Choose your account and click on "Replace owner on..."
  5. Click on OK and wait for it to apply.

After that
  1. Navigate through the root folder of osu! again and open up the properties
    1. Select then Alt + Enter or
    2. Right click > Properties
  2. Go to Security tab and click on Advanced
  3. Go to Permissions tab then Change Permissions...
  4. Click on Add... and enter your Username there
  5. Click on OK and select on Allow all (at the top)
  6. Click on OK and wait for it to apply.

osu! is actually not crashing it is freezing instead it just gives me a black screen and then i have to close it via alt+f4 or task manager or the windows problem reporting kicks in. The score is not even submitted in the score screen the multiplayer section is blank like in offline mode

Have you tried the suggestions?
Keep me posted on what did what, and hopefully -- what fixed it

Have you tried restarting your computer? Also, it's worth a shot to try what Pawsu said and see if compatibility mode works. Does an error saying "Score submission is down retrying (x) minutes" or something along those lines when you try and submit a score?

ofc I restart my computer every day and this has been there for like the past month and compatibility mode might fix it but I won't play with it cuz of the lag and it is hard to recreate the error maybe it is from spamming esc after the map finished or sth. it is just there sometimes I do a good play never with the bad plays and then rip score not submitted after I restart osu! everything works fine again

When you restart osu! the score that is trying to be submitted is lost. Does this only occur when you spam esc?

since I only spam esc and never really tried to not do that I don't know I'll test it the next days and if it occurs again I'll post it!
and btw the score is not shown on local scores either so completely gone.
