I followed these directions https://osu.ppy.sh/wiki/Universal_Offset and became a little frustrated.
-27 seems like the best offset when the hitsounds are disabled (though it wasn't as consistent as I'd have liked)
However, I may have adapted to match the hitsound with the beat as opposed to my keyboard presses. This is evidenced by the fact that, when hitsounds are added, my hits become too early. In fact, my accuracy is best when the universal offset is at 0 (as it was before).
My hitsound is pretty standard and short, but if I aspire to match my keyboard taps with the beat, it comes too late by perhaps 20 ms.
Is this a problem anyone else has? Should I set the universal offset to 0?

You should use the universal offset that makes you play better, of course.

Anyway, for most of the cases, if you aren't using any external audio card, universal offset should always be set at 0.

Alright, thanks.
It's curious that the instructions on the wiki are like that then, since it results in a nonzero offset and doesn't accommodate hitsounds.
