When restarting osu! to finish updating to cutting edge release stream, the osu!updater that opens just hangs and doesn't respond.

Trying to close it gives the following error report:

Video or screenshot showing the problem:

osu! version: 20141008.17 (or whatever the cutting edge one is)

Seems to be unrelated to t/256560, seeing as changing any settings in the config file does not help.
Fix posted in t/257615/ does not help either, osu!updater still hangs and gives the same error.

Any suggestions on how to further diagnose this are welcome.

Open the update and try updating it, instead of updating it 'in-game'

Same issue.. updater hangs after the update.

Edit: Found a fix! Open one of your replays, the game says to 'click here to restart', then it will work. At least, it did for me.

Currently having a similar issue as well.

It's impossible for me to open osu! because it tries to run the updater but the updater immediately goes unresponsive. Waiting doesn't solve anything and running the updater is out of the question( because duhh the updater IS the problem).
There isn't anything wrong with osu! itself though. It opens perfectly fine if you manage to bypass the updater either by using [Animeniac]'s method or by replacing osu!.exe with an earlier version of itself.

For now, I'll just delete my osu! shortcut from my desktop and drag a replay there instead because it seems to be the easiest way to get into osu! for now

Does opening osu!.cfg and changing _ReleaseStream to Stable help?

Are you guys still experiencing this? What version of windows / do you have aero on?
Kuro
Yes it's still happening to me. I'm currently using windows 8.1 pro

Edit: Just found out that if you do manage to run the updater from the options menu, it'll do exactly what it does in IppE's video but if you reopen osu! using a replay and look at the current version, It looks like it does update.

Current build, as displayed by osu!, is supposedly b20141117.7cuttingedge

Still experiencing - still using my workaround.

Running windows 8.1

This should be fixed now. Please confirm.
Kuro
Updater opens successfully now but for some reason it downloads localisations every time. At first I assumed it was probably just a new update but even opening and closing the updater in a span of about 5 min. it still downloads them every single time.

Edit: Updater works perfectly fine now. I haven't had anymore problems with it for the past 3 days. Localisations problem seems to be fixed as well now.
