Problem Details:
Annoying issue that a lot of poeple seem to have. Happens because of something with my GPU according to the log, if I switch to integrated the game becomes unplayable, as the mouse skips around as if it was going 10 frames per second, nor does it move correctly.

Here's the lovely error lines that I see to many times
System.ArgumentException: Value does not fall within the expected range.

I'm sick of seeing this stupid ass error every 30 seconds

osu! version: 20140410.5 (latest)
Marcin
Uh, HD4000 should be more than sufficient for playing osu!. Make sure to update graphics drivers:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail ... 4&lang=eng

+ your external GPU drivers which I can't conclude form dxdiag since it is not listed:
http://www.nvidia.pl/Download/index.aspx?lang=pl
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

From DxDiag it seems your HD4000 uses WDDM drivers... which are probably not good for best performance.

Try switching to openGL, I don't think that relies on XNA as much.

OpenGL eats my framerate making the game unplayable.
Marcin

Fix your crap, I am using a overheating laptop with i5-430M with intel HD graphics to play osu! and I can play for hours with 360fps on directX just fine
OpenGL turns everything into shit on my end, but it works with my radeon 6470M... somehow

Update your directX, Integrated graphics, and Nvidia graphic card, Microsoft visual redistributable 2008,2010 x64 x86

The problem could also be related to your audio driver, you can go to acer to see if there is a new driver or just nab one from MSI if you know your soundcard.

didn't help

Well not much we can do about it unfortunately. openGl should work as long as you don't choose higher frame-limiters. Try vsync option.

Can you try to clean boot and see if the same thing happens?

Just go to msconfig and untick Load startup items or Load system services (or both)
You always turn them back on

I'm just guessing it might be a software issue rather than the driver

anyone know if MSI Afterburner would possibly cause this?

An overclock? Maybe, I'm not sure though. Overclocks can cause stability issues among programs and OSes alike.

Especially with an intel GPU.

actually, underclock, I have heat issues.
PhillipVH
Underclocked here as well (GT540M, also had heat issues). Having the same issue, just started recently. Only way for me to make it work is to switch to OpenGL.

This card has been making my life hell since I've bought this laptop. Jay.
