Without forcing the whole skin.

As a player, I hate to see maps that force a skin, because I can only play with my own skin (I know...) and I tend to enjoy the game more with it. This is the reason why I hate to force skins or use any skin in the folder in my own maps, because other players feel this way too.

However, as a mapper, I use the standard hitsounds when mapping, so my custom hitsounds are designed to work well with them and only them (which is why I force the default hitsounds in my maps by using custom overrides), and the map would most probably sound a lot worse with another set of hitsounds (say, the EBA ones).

Custom overrides would of course override the forced skin hitsounds.

Derek had the idea to make it automatic - that is, force standard hitsounds whenever custom overrides are used in a mapset, too.

translation: force default if you have custom hitsounds at all?

If you're that particular about making people use your hitsounds, just make them download the extra 2 MB. (for now)

However, yes, I can't see a reason to use anything OTHER than default hitsounds with a custom timing section.

Sorry, I don't understand this request very well.

Are you saying mappers should be able to force a certain set of a skin's hitsounds without actually forcing the skin? If so, isn't this what custom hitsound override is :S

If not, please specify in some other way since I can't seem to understand what the request is. Sorry again :<

ohhhhhhhhh

but still, how is it different from the current system other than the fact that we have a new drop-down menu in the storyboarding section?

you wouldn't have to upload 2 MB of data to force default hitsounds and user preference skin.

That way, i'd say low priority.

Thanks for the efforts to explain :D

In case you're wondering, this is NOT how you ask for a testplay... (click to toggle)

That's a better solution. Hitsound samples shouldn't be forced in other circumstances for the same reason that the default skin shouldn't be forced without reason.
Always leave headroom before bouncing.
Avoid close harmonies at lower registers.
Check for mono compatibility thoroughly with wide mixes.
Opt for volume automation instead of just compression.
Detune that sawtooth.
Putting effects on the master channel while mixing is basically all seven cardinal sins.

That's what I was doing so far - check my ranked maps - but the beatmap I'm making needs a lot of different hitsounds, and if I did that, I wouldn't have enough of all the currently available custom overrides.

I was thinking of adding this as a mapping option at one point. It's annoying when maps force defaultskin because they need the hitsounds, but then everything else gets forced at the same time.
Gameplay, cosmetic, remark, badly applied mods, ranking guidelines.

Next to the preferred skin option in the editor but for hitsounds only. Much like how you can ignore hitsounds and skin separately.

Why? If you don't customize all your hitsounds in a map, users with their own hitsounds in their skin will play the map with all their hitsounds that you didn't include in your map.

It's more useful to have the option to select which skin your basing your hitsounds off from without changing anything visual and forcing people to play with the default skin the first time. (preferred skin).

You will force users to play the map with the preferred hitsounds you have selected, which isn't a problem since it will just make it more consistent with your custom hitsounds. Everyone will then be able to use Ignore hitsounds and play the map without any custom hitsound or preferred hitsounds from the map.

Don't confused this with some kind of bug, it's not. It's just a problem that arrives from beatmaps not having all hitsounds when you play them, which ends up in mixed hitsounds.
I feel like this is a must for all maps with custom hitsounds/samples.

edit: In most cases it will just be with the default osu! samples, just like how nobody uses other skins in the preferred skin list, except taiko.

I want this too! :(

It would be nice for this map: https://osu.ppy.sh/s/80596
Because if you have a skin with custom sounds you would hear the ones from the skin and the clap from the beatmap. It sounds odd and out of place, and copying all the hitsounds from the template skin to the beatmap folder would just make the file bigger than what it needs to be :L

I see! Strange title use...
I'll just merge this then.

edit: Looks like my title is used for the topic now, which is better.
