Several hundreds of people have been talking about a "smooth cursortrail" that sometimes occurs when you focus on the osu! window after a period of inactivity or focusing on another window. Here is an example image: https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/490041

Using a blank 1 by 1 cursormiddle.png doesn't look the same, so it would be really nice if there was a way of determining the sample amount/rate for cursor trails.

Please, I need this.

You can already do this depending on what cursor trail you use, how small/big it is and by making a cursor image blank (you know, one of the cursor files in the skin folder). Although it would be nice to have the freedom to change it in-game without messing about with skins!

Creating a smooth cursortrail is possible. You just need to pick the right sizes when creating the cursir elements

I think op wants more automatic functionality

Not really. When you flick your cursor super fast it can still appear not smooth especially with a small cursor.
