Problem Details:
Whenever i want to download beatmaps from the website i get a notification that says
(sry if i dont translate it that well)
"There is no app attached wich can open the file. Install an app wich can open the file"
When i downloadet the maps i cant even doubleclick them to import them into osu, they are just white sheets, the file however is called (example) "MySweetMaiden.osz" but it just wont do anything.
The only option i have, is to use the osu.exe to run that file.
However this still doest fix the problem that i cant download/run the files with the original .osz format.

How i think i got to the problem:
I once had my osu folder on my "E" harddrive, but because the filepath for a sertain map was to long so i couldnt download it, i copyed and pasted my osu folder to my "C" harddrive, now i need to run osu as admin but im fine with that, but since ive done it i have the problem that my pc doesnt recignices osu file formats such as .osz.

Hold shift while starting the game until a recovery window pops up and hit the "repair osu!" button.

You should also be able to manually set osz files to open with osu! permanently: https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/posts/6298862

The repair didnt do anything and i already open osz files with the osu.exe.
This didnt change anything for me and i still cant download map with osu direct

You need to make sure you check the box that says to always use the app you choose.

What happens when you try to download maps through direct?

Where? At the menu that opens when i press shift? I dont see anything where i could check that.

I can download maps in the game via direct just fine,
I just cant download them / link them to direct via the browser, wich means i cant download maps if a friend of mine send me the map link of the browser and not ingame.

Did you look at the post I linked? There are a bunch of pictures that show you exactly what you need to do/where that checkbox is. It's not on the recovery window, it's an option when you open the file with osu!.

And what browser are you using?

Yes i did. If I open the map file like that without osu beeing open i just get a not ending loop where osu gets started and shut down again, when it is opend however it installs the map just fine.
And the ceckbox is "activated".

And what browser are you using?

What release stream are you on? Could you possibly get a video of the game opening and closing after trying to open a map? I don't believe that is something I have ever seen. Also if you could provide your "runtime.log" after that happens, that would be great.

You can find the release stream you are on right at the top of the options menu, or you can find your version number all the way at the bottom of the menu, either one will work.

You can just copy+paste the things that are in the file directly here.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what could be causing this issue since repairing the game did nothing and your runtime.log shows nothing out of the ordinary.

I recall you said you needed to run the game as an administrator. Are you doing that manually, or have you set the game to always run as an administrator through the exe? If you haven't done the latter yet, I would try it.

I have set it to perma run as admin but when I start it, I allways need to press "ok" for it to run as admin.

I don't wanna be a smart guy, but it can be fixing like this:
1) Download any maps from osu site
2) Open it through right click
3) Choose the option how you always wanna open it
4) Find the way to your osu folder.
5) Find osu.exe and click it

This bugged is in only windows 10, it's not even your browser :) Windows 10 cannot recognize any files and remember them if you try choosing app through the browser. Windows 10 can remember it if you do that how i described you up there.

I hope your problem will be fixing :)

Since the first encounter of that problem, I am only able to download maps (if I need to download them from the browser) like this.
Thanks for the try but this doesnt fix my problem.
I have the same problem with downloading skin wich also are (mostly) available with a specific osu file format, wich means i neither can download them.

But why did it work just fine for over 2 years?

It worked fine until you changed your osu folder from disc E to your disc C. After that it lost the way and right app. Now a game cannot be able to recognize any osu files. I mean it recognize, but you are just getting errors every time when you trying to open it. Am i right?
I've been to same boat, like i already told ya. It is up to windows 10 :)

Now i doubt about there is no a option to pick right app. Btw, Death's link is good to fix it. It has some screenshotes, check it out

Did it already, didnt work.

Hmm, what if you will download osu and install again to another disc, ofc if you have free memory. How will it work then? Don't delete your old osu game
Need to know what causes this problem.

I cant get it anywhere else, the reason why I moved it to my "C" disc is because I wanted to download a sertain map and the path was to long, so i couldnt download it.

And I*ll try to redownload it.
