Hmm. It started off a little bland tbh with it's percussion, but it did get a bit better. It had a decent progression from the silence of instruments to fit the vocals back into the instrumental phases. That part around 1:59 helped a bit and changed it up somewhat nicely. But I didn't expect 2:39 considering the mood of the song and the earlier progressions, which really brought it back up and made it interesting due to the contrast of intensity. That part sounded nice. From there on, it was pretty good, especially 3:45.

I feel rather conflicted in my judgment of this song. As a song itself with the majority of its concepts, I like it, but the quality of the audio is just not really helping. Though, I love these drumloop cuts and the atmosphere is nice and heavy. The voice lines honestly didn't add much aside from all-too-direct insight into the title of the song. Overall, it's somewhat lackluster, mostly due to the audio quality.

It just had the potential, but the mastering made the experience rather unfulfilling.

...Well, I'm listening to it again, and it's growing on me, just a little. I wonder if it was intentional.

Huh. I'm digging pretty deep into the type of songs I used to like with my next submission.

4/10 not my thing, bit boring and sounds kinda kitschy.

Achromalia
7.81/10.

Was a bit to digest, with a song of that length. I accidentally refreshed the page while I was pointing out certain things and uhh... yeah. Oof.

It was pretty nice overall. Some parts were pretty damn good, especially from 9:26 through to the end. There wasn't much that stood out aside from the cool progressions from 3:54 onwards.

Heh, kinda expected that in the back of my mind.

Rook
7.5/10 Refreshing sounds, guitar is a really nice addition. Outro I like a lot.

Ye, It was mainly the vocals just being there 'just because anime/whatever' rather than adding anything interesting imo. I think it can be done well, like some goreshit stuff, but I wasn't feeling it in that song.

I really like this one. I actually have heard some of Danimal Cannon's stuff, so it's interesting to see them brought up here. Of course, with the new release of Just Shapes & Beats, it's a little less surprising. They're getting a bit more popularity from that game due to it's soundtrack-based gameplay (after all, it's kind of a rhythm game)

The progressions here are great. The mood is great. Everything's pretty much great.

Well! I'm awake at 4:39 AM. I should probably stop doing this and just wait till morning to respond to these later, but I prefer to reply as soon as possible. Maybe I'll get more than 6 hours of sleep that way.

7/10 This is nice, but pretty mediocre against some of the other ambient stuff you've left here, still gorgeous though and the piano at the end is ❤.

Oh interesting, I got recommended him from Slime Girls on Last FM while back, didn't know he had music in a game, that's really cool!
That's mad, but sorry I keep disappearing, I'll try to be a little more active.

80% of the time I'm just gonna be saying "this is pretty good" with the songs you submit xD

This is pretty good. The vocals aren't bad, they go well with the mood of the song and are actually kinda the bulk of it sometimes. Percussion was good.

And uh-- it's okay! Time zones are kinda irritating sometimes, but that can be worked around.

Ughhh this next submission though, this was my childhood, back when I played a game called "BeatBall". Imphenzia, specifically, was probably the first electronic artist I listened to that sparked my love for electronic music. Trance was my first genre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_NzEvIFPt8

Rook
7.7/10, Actually kinda cool, although It sounds pretty uninspired and repetitive, I still really liked listening to it for what it was regardless.

Lol, I'm saying that for most of your stuff too, and BeatBall, nice!
I used to really like power metal myself ; v ; -

Gonna be honest, this sort of genre is a bit too energetic for my liking, so it usually depends on chords, percussion, or something like that. Anyways, some parts of this song were pretty powerful. There were some nice transitions too.

I'll submit the progression of the songs i used to like from my childhood to the present day, how's that?

Also yeah, trance and techno songs are typically pretty repetitive in nature. It's kind of an intentional thing, with repeated arpeggiators and stuff like that.

Rook
6.8/10 Also okay, I can dig it for a little while, don't think I'd enjoy it for eight minutes though without wanting to listen to something different.

That sounds like a cool thing to do, I'm interested.
And yah I just realised it was a pretty dumb and ill-founded criticism to call trance repetitive, lol.

Achromalia

Amazing atmosphere, sounds beautiful. This sort of ambience is what I'm into.

Well, I guess I'll proceed. I recall enjoying a handful of those trance songs, and eventually it moved on to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bZ9GWq_s_M

So far, in chronological order, the genres I listened to expanded from Uplifting Trance, to Progressive Trance and Hard Trance.

(Side Note: Going through all the songs I liked is going to take a long while, but I don't want to skip them all, so I'll probably be stuck around one particular genre or artist for a while, hopefully that's okay. My childhood is pretty damn precious to me, and all of the music I first discovered and listened to during that time, it's a bit hard for me to just forget it all, y'know?)

It was quite thematic, but it didn't really do anything interesting in terms of melody or rhythm. The one main thing of this is the buildup, and that's about it. I did like the authenticity of this though. Just thought it had a bit more potential than that.

This one was a bit better. The beginning was pretty nice, a good taste of what was to come. The melodies were decent, the background vocals helped, the front vocalist was decent as well. The growlers in these genres are kind of an iffy thing for me, but if it adds to the mood, then it counts as a plus. Here, i wound up being rather indifferent to it. It did mix well the atmosphere, so it still counted. It had some contrast in its transitions. Overall, it's decent.

Well, the whole "childhood genre expansion timeline" was intended for Rook, but I guess I'll keep it going for you to see how it slowly progressed as well.

Metal is honestly a genre I'm rather indifferent to along with it's subgenres, so I try to judge purely on melody, power, percussion, and consistency. When growls are involved, im usually indifferent as well. I do appreciate the theme of power in a lot of their songs though. At a certain point, it's up to the execution of their music expression of whatever concept is being presented.

I checked out the official music video for the song. It was pretty interesting. Felt almost too stereotypical for me though.

Hmm. Though I dont remember this being the name of it, I definitely recognize listening this next song:

Achromalia

Quite enjoyable to listen to. The transitions and bridges were interesting to hear. Also quite a bit digest. Not much else to say side from that.

So it took a LONG while to figure out what I had been listening to back then. Honestly, I've been rabbit hole-omg for a pretty long time, and I don't think I remember much of what I listened to.

I'll be skipping worth about a year of music, since I don't remember what I listened to.

But somewhere along the way, I came across the Chillout genre. Around this time, I've expanded to multiple new genres.

At the time of this next submission, I've expanded from several subgenres of Trance to a couple more genres of Techno, Chillout, and Chiptune. Those were my next genres.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuvL7wI99u4

I do remember somewhat enjoying MLP back then for some reason, and I enjoyed the music the fanbase made, though I didn't consider myself a part of it. This is one of the songs I listened to.

(Note: It seems the original uploader "The Official PON3" took their videos down or something. The upload date doesn't seem right, as I remember the official video being released around 2012).

Rook
6.8/10, I didn't expect much to be honest, I'm pleasantly surprised, just don't think it's super interesting overall and a bit generic.

You ever listened to Tycho or Emancipator when you first got into chillout/related genres? Just wondering. I went through a similar phase of really digging chill and ambient style stuff.

Achromalia
8.09/10

Pretty good. Something I'd expect from this genre. Nice reverb and release for a lot of the instruments here, especially the piano.

I don't remember hearing of "Tycho" or "Emancipator". Actually, When I found the genre, I found this mix, which was the first mix I saw with the Ambient/Chill genres. I loved this mix ever since. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2mVfpDHr9k)

Anyways, I remember looking for an artist named "Essay" while I looked for songs in this genre.

Rook
6.2/10. Not into this, don't know why. Very spacious sound and good atmosphere but I'm not interested or absorbed at any point.

I'm surprised you haven't actually. The mix sounds pretty good, but I like listening to MrSuicideSheep's playlists from time to time too, that and channels alike promote some great artists.

Achromalia
8.34/10

A lovely arrangement of sound. Great melodies throughout the whole song, like 3:25.

also big oof-- my hardware keyboard isn't working so I have to use a touchscreen keyboard instead, which sucks ass with me typing as slow as one word every 30 seconds so ill be a little lazy in my diction.

promo channels are good to check out, as they can promote multiple different creators with different styles for a certain genre or group of genres. I've seen Ambient, ChilloutDeer, MrSuicideSheep, Fluidified, Pulse8, and a lot of others for different genres.

im struggling to find the songs i liked around 2012-2014, but i remember this song from a game called Platform Racing 2 around that time.

i imagine my younger self would've loved this song, it has this sort of energy to it that would've appealed to me back then.

unfortunately I'm just not enjoying the process of searching for songs i listened to in the past. I'll be posting random songs i like from now on.

a thing I liked when i first found Undertale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT5QWLs69To

This blends nicely, could imagine this being film/production level quality. Great composition.

Yeah, I've got two soundcloud accounts, but I've only released a couple songs that i made around a year or two ago, so it's not up-to-date with my current WIPs.

Here they are:

Liking the harsh vibes going on with 'Futility', sounds so crunchy and layered, such an interesting moody tone too.

The song is good overall, it's just that the dubstep drop is too slow and I favor fast drops.
