Of course I can't make rules about how to MAKE the skins, as art is completely subjective; but I can enforce rules about how to PRESENT them ;P.
First of all, please include screenshots on your thread. Screenshots are always good, and serve as a nice preview for the skin before downloading it. Second, the theme of the skin won't be judged, but the FEEL will. The skin must at least feel "coherent" in that all the graphics follow some topic or theme, and isn't way too over the top or "nonsensical" as to feel out-of-place for the game. Examples of this: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=554 That skin differs from the rest for being really "cheery" on its style, and going for a completely different feel; but it's well-made, coherent on it's theme, and it doesn't bring any advantages/disadvantages over other skins. MORE IMPORTANT, people seem to approve it overall. User support plays a big part of going official! More things will be added as needed. |

Common sense here, but I think the 3 main factors for determining a good skin are:
1) Consistency Usually, if something looks good, it adheres to a certain theme. It doesn't matter what your theme is, but make sure you try to keep to the theme as best as possible. Your theme might be to have no theme, but then its individual parts have to be really effing good. 2) Clarity No matter how good it may look in the editor, if it makes the game much harder to play, it won't see much use. Worst offenders are probably skins that play around with a lot of transparency, making it hard to see what is what. Try to play with your skin enabled before expecting anyone else to use it. If you're having troubles with it on, chances are others will have too. 3) Mudkipz i liek mudkipz!!! mudkipz r awesom!!!! And yeah, screenshots of the skin while introducing it is a HUGE plus, since I'm usually skeptical of downloading skins that I don't what they look like. If you can't figure out any other way to do it, just print screen the window during a replay and paste it in your favourite image editor (heck, even MSPaint, if you really feel like saving bastardized jpgs). That way it's easy to figure out what the user is getting to. Last edited by Fraeon on , edited 2 times in total.

Funny how you link to me as an exemple when I haven't even met your first guideline
Don't worry, I'm adding screenshots now. ![]() Osu! Skins: Taiko Drum Master | Elite Beat Osu Storyboards: Taiko/ChiBA Storyboard (w/awp) | SMB1 Medley Storyboard | Braid Storyboard | PW/EBA Storyboard (w/m980) All the maps in my graveyard are up for grabs, PM me if you're a good mapper and want to take over one of them (╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻ ルイージハン |

If you hold down Alt as you press print screen, it'll only capture the currently active window, which will save you the trouble of cropping it. Also, taking Osu! screenshots is easier if you take them during the replay instead of trying to take it while playing... ![]() Osu! One more thing - if you haven't already noticed, I absolutely HATE image hosting sites. imageshack takes ~ 1 minute to load each image for us over in Australia. Please use the forum attachment support for your screenshots, or at least use http://up.ppy.sh
