http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiko_no_Tatsujin

Made by Bandai Namco, similar to Donkey Konga, there was a PS2 version released in the US as "Taiko Drum Master," and there's a DS version that's worth importing if you like Nintendo DS rhythm games that are awesome.

Anyway, the reason I bring it up is because I think it wouldn't be too hard to adapt Osu! to have some kind of Taiko mode. They gameplay is similar, but simpler.

For red beats you hit the center of the drum, and for blue beats you hit the side. I think it'd be possible to map this to left mouse button for red, and right mouse button for blue, or something. Or just keyboard keys.

The only reason I suggest it for Osu! is because I was thinking about making a beatmap with all the beats in the exact same spot as a joke, and that got me thinking about this. That, and the timeline at the top of the Osu! editor reminds me of the Taiko interface. I realize it's kind of outside of Osu!'s premise (that's why I'm posting in off-topic rather than feature requests, because it's more of a separate game idea), but it seems that the fundamentals are pretty similar, and . . . it would be cool.

All the maps in my graveyard are up for grabs, PM me if you're a good mapper and want to take over one of them

Hmmm...
I think this would work better with a keyboard, but then beatmania would probably be a better program to do something like that with. I distinctly remember some percussion battles in the good old days of beatmania, I'm sure that is pretty close to Taiko No Tatsujin. I guess you could even use the on-screen keyboard to go one step further :P

I don't think keyboard support will ever be seriously considered by Peppy unless the mobs get angry. That being said, I think there was another post in feature requests where someone wanted numpad support for playing, but I think the general response to that was "use beatmania/stepmania"-

I suppose. I think my roundabout logic was this:

Osu! uses the mouse to simulate a DS touchscreen
Taiko DS uses the DS touchscreen to simulate a drum
Ergo, it'd be cool if Osu used the mouse to simulate a drum :ugeek:

Obviously that has its flaws, but I think that's where my brain was. I'll take a look at Stepmania sometime, though.

I definitely agree that keyboard controls don't make much sense for an Ouendan simulator.

I do it like that with my friend.
