Same problem here, I think osu for iphone have never been updated.

this project has not been maintained for nearly 2 years now!

you're better off using osu!stream, available free on the app store.

osu!iPhone works more smoothly than osu!stream for me, and I can play my favorite beatmaps on it too :p
