There are plenty of good modern artists out there too.

Bigelf are heavily inspired by classic bands such as Black Sabbath, King Crimson, etc (the solo from the song above sounds very Pink Floydish). I really recomend their first record "Money Machine", the rest are okay but I never got into those as much as this one.

These guys well... In my opinion if Jack White was born 2 or 3 decades earlier, he would be reminded as one of the big rock names today. Keeps it so simple but so well done and awfully catchy in everything he does, either in White Stripes or Dead Weather or in whichever project he gets into.

ofcourse there are still good rock bands these days, muse has some awesome songs, some of the older songs of coldplay and linkin park are very decent, but i was more talking about things like 30 seconds to mars, fall out boy, panic at the disco. those are just horrible.
i would even listen to some within temptation sometimes, and the white stripes have some awesome songs (seven nation army, the hardest button to button)
but they can still never compete with these guys

everytime i hear the piano at the end.. its just too good.

Pink Floyd are a different league than most stuff posted here. There are some amazing progressive bands nowadays too but they're mostly metal related and not in the "rock" genre as pink floyd are.

And well by the way I'm one of those very unoriginal guys that consider Dark Side of the Moon the best album of all time.

edit; but since someone opened the progressive door

I love this so hard

My favorite is Comforably Numb Pulse live version, the extended solo must be one of the best guitar performances ever or something. If we're talking about studio versions, Brain Damage followed by Eclipse takes it for me.
